Carey merchants extend hours from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting Monday December 9 through Christmas and offer free parking from December 11 to Christmas. The Fire Department will bring Santa on the fire engine to downtown Saturday at 2:30 p.m. He returns December 14 and 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A four year old Christmas decorating program advances plastic pole decorations, lights, and greenery with thanks to the village electric department.

Navy Lieutenant Tom Atkins of North Baltimore witnessed the Kennedy slaying in Dallas and served as the White House's first official movie photographer. He rode in the third car behind the President, rushed to photograph the assassin, and followed the President to the hospital before Kennedy's death was announced. Atkins, a Carey High School and Ohio University graduate, had covered state affairs and family trips, and was set to film funeral rites.

Soldiers Deployed to Germany for Two Years

Firemen Answer Two Alarms In Carey History
Carey firemen answered two alarms last week. At 2 45 p m Tuesday they were called to the Joseph S Fox property on Adam Street where fire of undetermined origin started in a wood pile. No damage. Last Thursday at 11 22 p m the fire department responded to a one car crash on West Findlay Street east of the A C and Y Railroad crossing. An automobile owned by Buford Fairchild and driven by Willis Frasure struck an electric pole. the car was extensively damaged and caught fire.

Carey Teacher Represents OEA Assembly in Columbus
Charles Shaffer, a Carey High School teacher, represented the Carey Teachers Association at the 41st annual Ohio Education Association Representative Assembly in Columbus. Six sessions were held over three days, with numerous recommendations presented. Hobart Henry Bell of Ohio Schools magazine was honored at the banquet.
