Christmas Concert by Carey Philharmonic Society

The Carey Philharmonic Society presents a Christmas program at 8 p.m. Sunday in the High School auditorium. Richard Wink directs with Mrs. Eugene Orians at the piano. The program includes Angels and Shepherds Sing We Now Good King Wenceslas and The Night Before Christmas plus a reading by Sibyl Wentling and performances by Lutheran Methodist and Catholic youth choirs.

Blue Devils Feted At Banquet At Carey High School event

Carey Jaycees Carey Kiwanis Club and American Legion hosted a banquet for the Carey High School grid squad. Three year awards went to Dennis Long and Wendell Wenner for varsity service. Two year awards honored Larry Cole Terry Tesko Chuck Plott Eddie Hotelling Dick Hucke Tom Greer Herm Seifert Chuck Dasher Rex Orians John McDaniel Marion Weaver. Single year awards went to Carroll Hill Don Wentling Dennis Yingling Dennis England Eddie Turnbell Bob Wentling and Leo Beagle. Doug Perry Bowling Green coach lectured on sportsmanship and scholastic effort. Cheerleader awards went to Carolyn Troiano Anita Long Rebecca Mullhol Madonna Dibling Frances Troiano and Carol Zender. Managers Don Stout Larry Walters were recognized.

Reynolds Couple Injured In Two Car Crash Near Stryker

Mrs Mary Reynolds 31 faces serious injuries including fractured shoulder and ribs after a collision at Routes 6 and 191 near Stryker. Her husband Robert Reynolds 38 from Detroit suffered a bruised leg and shock but was not hospitalized. Other driver Eugene Burkle 25 of Tiffin was treated for concussion head injuries and a fractured leg at Fort Wayne Veterans Hospital. The Reynolds were en route home after visiting relatives.

Fire damages sorghum on George Chadwick farm west of Carey

A small blaze of undetermined origin destroyed six shocks of sorghum on the George Chadwick farm west of Carey. Harrison Opp saw the fire around midnight Sunday, waking Mr and Mrs Chadwick who called Vanlue volunteers. Firefighters extinguished it before the nearby barn was threatened.

Tom Greer Named Captain for 1958 Blue Devils

Junior quarterback Tom Greer was chosen by teammates to captain the 1958 football team, succeeding Dennis Long. At a football banquet, MVPs for each game were announced, with Wendell Wenner for Oak Harbor and Chuck Platt for Ada among the honorees, plus Tom Greer MVP against Hardin-Northern and others across the schedule. The season includes games against Oak Harbor, Hardin-Northern, Clyde, Ada, and North Baltimore among others.

CYO Thanksgiving Dance Draws 450 Attendees

The CYO deanery Thanksgiving dance at the Catholic school drew 450 young attendees on Wednesday evening November 27. A king and queen from Tiffin Calvert High School were chosen. A cakewalk and refreshments finished the event, with a candy booth aiding the bazaar fundraiser for the new school.

Strauch couple invited to 69th Rose Parade in Pasadena

Mr and Mrs Kenneth Strauch of Bucyrus owners of Thoraclean have been invited to the 69th Rose Parade in Pasadena California on New Year’s Day. They received a ticket to the Ohio State Oregon State game from Walter Benedict, head of the Pasadena Tournament of Roses equestrian committee. Mrs Strauch said they have not decided if they will attend. The rules call for silver horse equipment.

Christ Church Honors FiftyYear Members

Christ Lutheran Church observed its 99th anniversary with a service honoring 31 members who have belonged for 50 years or more. Notables include Mrs Jackson Sopher who joined 65 years ago, and several others with 51 to 63 years of membership. Flowers were given, and candles were shared for those absent. A death noted during the year was longtime member Mrs I L Culler, who joined in 1904.

Music Boosters Elect 1958 Officers

The Salem Music Boosters elected 1958 officers with Mrs Russell Swartz as president and Mrs Ida Thiel as treasurer. Mrs Russell Mewhorter is secretary, and vice president Mrs Fred Scheck Jr was reelected. The group planned a social meeting and authorized purchasing an oboe for the music department. A mass meeting of Carey Ohio citizens is set for Monday at 8 30 in the Carey High School auditorium. Development counselor Charles F Heath will address the gathering and discuss community growth and development plans. Sixty three people signed up for the Carey Community Development Corporation organization meeting held Nov 26 in the village council chambers.
