Students enjoyed the Hump backed Horse by the Mere dith Marionette company Monday. The annual carnival last Tuesday was a success. Miss Smith returns after seven weeks away. First basketball game of the season set for Friday December 2 with 15 and 35 cent admission.

These pupils earned 100 per cent in spelling for six weeks: Gene Brie Mary Alice Hellman Donald Hill Evelyn Hinebaugh Joyce Luman Patty Michaels Howard Presler Jean Presler Zellon Ritter Ruth Wenner. In arithmetic game boys lead with Billy Rothgeb ahead, Zellen Ritter in second. In spelling contest girls lead with Patty Michaels and Jean Presler tied for first.
A regular Dorcas Bible class gathering of the M. E. Sunday school is scheduled for Thursday evening December 8 at the home of Mrs. F A Miller. Assisting hostesses include Mrs. Bertha Rangeler Mrs. Charles Walters and Mrs. Harvey Wonder.
The W B A meeting scheduled for Friday evening has been postponed due to the Gasco cooking school and will be held next Friday evening. Officers will be elected and a potluck will follow.
Village council opened six sewer bids and five for the disposal plant with a $43,163 spread between high and low sewer offers. Top bids included Kalilla Cleveland at $188,179.30 and Curro South Euclid at $106,378.72. Plant bids ranged from $48,622.00 to $64,833.25 with Kalilla Cleveland submitting $56,237.95 and Patterson Detroit at $52,099.40. Council approved the Marro sewer bid pending PWA approval and referenced FEH McGraw disposal bid.
Christmas club checks totaling $5,50000 were mailed by Peoples Bank on Tuesday. The new club for 1939 opens Saturday December 3, with larger anticipated participation as the idea gains favor after a lean year.
Recreation night for ladies at the high school is set for Tuesday December 6 at 7 30 p m All ladies are invited to attend.
Healey's Tavern offers live music every Saturday and Sunday night while Friday features a fish fry. Plate lunch priced at 10 cents.
Carey business men plan a Saturday welcome for Santa Claus to the Strand theatre with a free show for local children. Santa will distribute candy from a large sack to every child attending.
The church launches Fellowship Week starting December 4 with morning service. Activities run Monday through Thursday focusing on the official board, men, women’s groups, and Young people to highlight inter relation of church groups and overall program.
The Carey Restaurant features 5c chicken sandwiches and homemade chicken noodle soup for a Saturday mite special. A 30c full course chicken dinner is offered Sunday. Located at 1st door east of Cy's Garage.

Memorial Evangelical church presents a December series of Christmas meditations led by Rev. Roy B. Leedy with daily topics such as The Star of Christian Faith and The Star of Bethlehem. The Women’s Missionary Society hosts a 7 30 p m Thank Offering program featuring hymns devotions duets and a missionary play.
Rev and Mrs Will J Elliott of Lancaster conduct an old fashioned revival at the Church of God on EB South Street. Services are held each evening at 7:30 o clock and the public is invited.
Christ Lutheran church marks 80th anniversary with a Sunday morning service led by Rev. E Luther Spaid and a 4 PM Fellowship Service. Choir, solos, and greetings by pastors accompany the events followed by a luncheon and social hour. The week ends with a bazaar and chicken supper.
Homemakers of Carey and vicinity may view modern cooking demonstrations on Friday and Saturday as the 1939 Gasco Food Institute is staged in the Catholic hall. Miss Katherine Thiele leads, assisted by Sue Thomas, with Ronald Lowe handling logistics. Highlights include a Visualize oven equipped Tappan gas range and premodern kitchen redesigns, plus free prizes after each program.
Free admission Friday December 2 at 8 p m features Cooking Cavalcade comparing old and new cooking methods with tastings of new dishes. Saturday December 3 2 p m presents Utopian show of modern cooking equipment speed tests and several manny dishes by the institute manager.
Clarence Wentz of Mt Blanchard and Addison Platt of Kirby returned home Tuesday from Pennsylvania with two deer each. Harvey Wise Alva Corbin and Roy Vogel of Wharton arrived Monday with a deer apiece after hunting bear there but staying for deer season.
Last Wednesday Homer Bleam advertised in The Carey Times want column that he had lost a black tan and white spotted beagle hound pup while hunting By noon Wednesday he learned a dog answering this description was being held by Homer England north of town The reunion followed later that day with both Homers satisfied
The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school will hold its monthly social meeting at the home of Mrs. Florence Daymon on E Findlay street Tuesday evening December 6. After a short business session a program will be presented featuring a playlet Not a Man in’the House and Mrs. Frank Slemmer will recite. All members and friends are invited.
The Pythian Sisters will hold a regular meeting this Thursday evening. All members are expected to be present.
The T. R. C. Club will meet Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Mark Karr.
The prosecuting attorney warned in county newspapers last year and this week Carey police instructed every business to remove all frames of chance. Displays will be seized and owners or gamblers prosecuted to the full extent of the law, says Mayor P. A. Hendricks.
The Victory class of the M. E. Sunday school meets Thursday evening at the home of Mrs Jay Martin on S. Vance street. Mrs Ralph Heck and Mrs Willis Wonder assist. Mrs Ralph Hamlet will conduct devotionals. Officers will be elected and a Christmas exchange held.
