The Community Chest Council held its first meeting led by president Earl Briggs at the public library. Briggs was reelected president and L Bland secretary treasurer. New members H L Wenner Wm Pontius and Mrs Henry Pahl joined to direct the campaign starting November 12.
The community notes the parochial school will open Tuesday. Residents and visitors from Columbus Toledo Akron Fremont Chicago and Findlay were in town over the weekend and several families hosted relatives and friends. Local youths attended events including the American Legion convention in Dayton and a meeting of correspondents in Fremont while others prepared for fairs in Columbus and Indianapolis.
Miss Helen Phillips and Omar Wentz wed in a single ring ceremony at the bride’s home near West Independence. Rev. G H Bartlebaugh officiated. The couple plans a Columbus trip before settling near Upper Sandusky. The bride is a Vanlue High School graduate of 1931.
Local social column lists Mr and Mrs G M Kurtz in Toledo on Wednesday and many Findlay residents visiting in town or with relatives. A stroke survivor, William Pahl, shows slight improvement while extended families regroup in Toledo, Carey, Kirby, Bellefontaine, Marseilles and Nedrow New York with travels to the State Fair and funerals cited.
An 8-pound son named Robert William was born Tuesday to Mr and Mrs W F Cole, residing miles southwest of Carvey.
Rev N H Sager is returned to Carey Memorial Church by Bishop George E Epp at the close of the 98th Ohio conference in Toledo Calvary church. Mrs N W Sager Mr and Mrs Claude Johnson and daughter Anne Elizabeth Mrs Martha Dipert and granddaughter Peggy Jean Waaland of Kenton and Mr and Mrs Dan Powell attended the Evangelical conference at Toledo on Sunday Rev Sager was already there The Carey people had dinner with Rev and Mrs O D Myers of Green Springs.
The Arlington Community Center Club sponsors an annual flower show at the Corbin garage next Saturday Aug 31. Entries close at 11 am with prizes provided by local businesses. Public hours run noon to 10 pm with free admission. Special feature includes gladioli exhibited by Mr J Nitchman with prize-winning varieties from state and national shows.
Mr and Mrs Fred Ewing of Mec cutchenville Guy Greer and Miss Susan Greer Mr and Mrs John Greer Mr and Mrs E W Mull Holland and Mr and Mrs H J Mull Holland attended the funeral of John Weck in Kenton at the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Weck aged 80 died Sunday after a short illness. He is survived by his wife Emma Vetter of Adrian.
George Tong aged 73 died Wednesday afternoon at his home six miles southwest of town after a six month illness. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o clock at St Pauls Church south of Vanlue. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Carey Dodge Motors will play Nevada next Sunday in a tournament with Galion and the Columbus Travelers also scheduled. Carey lost 3 to 1 at Forest last Sunday, the report notes.
Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Reynolds and daughter Celia with Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Brown attended a fruit carnival on Sunday at Gem Beach. The event, sponsored by the fruit growers of Catawba Island, drew about 5 000 attendees.

On Labor Day September 1 there will be no city or rural deliveries from the Carey post office. The general delivery window remains open until 9 00 A M.
Mr and Mrs Grover Snyder, Mr and Mrs Linus Myers, Clyde Howard and Miss Amelia Roszman attended a convention in Dayton on Sunday.
The Carey Townsend club will meet at the Catholic hall next Monday evening September 2. A speaker will be present from Toledos.
Mr and Mrs C J Koehler and their son Steven spent the weekend in Cleveland enjoying a family outing.
The Carey schools band will perform in a street concert on Wednesday evening next week, Sept 4. Selections include Our Director Overture, Little Champion, Roseland Waltzes, De Molay Commandery, Spick and Span, National Emblem Overture, Finale, Billboard March, and Little Giant March.
Flames engulfed the Sugar's Elevator Co facility at Millersville last Thursday, destroying the plant and 3,000 bushels of wheat along with 30 tons of shelled corn 150 bushels of oats 50 bushels of rye 8 tons of scratch feed and 20 tons of chick feed. Leo and Louis Foos notified villagers who joined Kansas and Fremont fire brigades. The structure collapsed after 45 minutes as a steel box car loaded with 1,200 bushels of wheat exploded from the heat. Estimates place total loss at 25 000 on the elevator and 5 000 on grain, partially covered by insurance.
Wyandot County shows over 12 percent growth this year with 546 4-H members 247 boys and 299 girls. All members completing work will display projects at the Wyandot County Fair September 17 20 with most of the fair building devoted to 4-H exhibits.
Ohio officials announce the squirrel hunting season opens October first instead of September fifteenth to protect babies and address complaints from game protectors and conservation groups. Hundreds of letters from sportsmen explain the inquiry into the change. Conservation Commissioner L Woodell notes the earlier start caused more baby squirrel deaths and drew criticism.
Grand Knight John Greer appoints R. M. Lonsway John Pahl and L. A. Kramer to assist in disseminating information about the national Eucharistic Congress to be held in Cleveland September 23 26 John Jacoby Sr joins the state council general committee of the Knights of Columbus.
Caroline Kummerer Martha Derr and Ruth Hosafros display demonstrations at the Ohio State Fair representing the Carey 4-H club. Club leaders Mrs Alfred Davis and Miss Margaret Wenzinger accompany them on the visit.
Eugene Mullholand, a Wittenberg College education student this summer, spent the weekend with his parents in Adrian before returning to Cadiz on Tuesday to begin his 10th year as principal of Cadiz High School.
Last week farmers in the locality received checks due in the corn hog reduction program. Seneca County farmers, per M. L. Howell county agriculture administrator, were to receive their wheat checks this week.
The Philathea class of Memorial Evangelical Sunday school meets next Tuesday evening at Mrs. J. G. Essex’s High street home. Mrs. L. L. Rowland and Mrs. Virgil Green will serve on the entertainment committee.
Mrs George Newhard remains bedridden after severe burns suffered last Thursday morning when a kettle of hot marmalade she was canning spilled over her.
The 8th Congressional District Rural Carriers Association will meet in the Catholic hall at Carey on Saturday September 7. E H Holt and J H Martin of Carey are in charge of arrangements and a speaker will be provided. Corfmans Graveleers will entertain and 120 men are eligible for membership in the district.
Herman A. Schubert died at 7 45 p m last Thursday at his daughter Mrs Glen Allen's home near Cortland due to a cerebral hemorrhage after a year of heart trouble. He was born March 14 1861 in Alvada and worked as a butcher in Fostoria for 45 years. He is survived by four daughters two brothers eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Memorial Evangelical church with Rev D D Palmer officiating and burial in Spring Grove cemetery. grandsons served as pallbearers.
Firefighters from Carey and New Riegel battled two blazes last Thursday and Wednesday. At Charles Kinn home seven miles north of Carey on New Haven road a fire destroyed outbuildings 300 laying hens 600 bushels of wheat 200 bushels of corn 250 bushels of oats and a Pontiac belonging to E C Deckler. A second fire at J D Carothers farm near Carey damaged a straw stack but buildings remained unscathed.
Wyandot county 4-H members named to the state junior fair teams. Carey participants Ralph Phillips Francis Hewitt Martha Derr Ruth Hosafros Martha McPheron Evelyn Harbour plus Forest and Sycamore members make up livestock judging and home demonstration squads. Members must register at 8 am Thursday and will judge or demonstrate during the day with Friday finals for state honors.
Miss Florence Zawodna travels from Chicago to visit relatives then takes a housekeeper post at the rectory of St Ann's Catholic church in Chicago Heights. She will serve Very Rey Aloys Fish, newly assigned pastor. Fish previously led Our Lady of Consolation province in Louisville for six years.
The Livingston family held its 25th annual reunion at Carey park on Sunday with 37 attendees. Richard Livingston of Arlington was re-elected president and F. L. Livingston secretary treasurer. the 1936 reunion is set for the last Sunday in August at Carey park.
Carey high school's football season starts early this year with a Sept 13 home game against Arlington. Equipment distribution is Friday afternoon and practice begins Tuesday.
Dan Coppler and Beatrice Roberts a phone operator were married recently. The Coppler barber shop front was decorated for their home-coming according to Bettsville News in the Tiffin Advertiser-Tribune.
Russell Phillips of 3144 miles south of town filed with the county election board as a candidate for trustee of Crawford township.
Former Carey resident and longtime Spokane educator Thomas A Bonser died at 74 from a heart attack at his Spokane home. He served as North Central high school biology head and was a noted Northwest geology authority and museum curator. Survived by widow Ethel, a daughter, a son, a granddaughter, and a sister, his life was marked by quiet scholarship and public service.
All 4-H club girls must have their record books filled in and garments finished by Saturday August 31. Books and garments are to be delivered to Mrs. Alfred Davis on E Findlay Street. The club will entertain parents Friday September 6 at the Catholic hall for an achievement meeting.
Nominating petitions for board of education and township offices must be filed with the county board of elections by 6 30 p m on Friday September 6.
The Knights of Columbus picnic is postponed from September 1 to September 8.
