The Carey district schedules a September opening at 8:20 a.m. with a moon recess at 11:30 and afternoon resuming at 12:40. Upper grades require physical education and attendance affects state funds. West building hosts grades 1–4 west of the railroad. text books provided, supplies listed later.
Mrs Emmet Kin and Clarence Kin host Forest Mississippi visitors including Emma Kiefer of Fostoria and Sylvester Jesko who spent Sunday with Monroe resident Miss Mary Catherine Kin. Floyd Kin and Mrs Jesko, who underwent tonsillectomies at Monroe hospital, returned home. The group plans a motor trip east with stops in Detroit and Lansing and a Lake resort visit next week.
On Friday August 18 five Friars arrived from St Anthony Novitiate Anrvola Ind to enter Our Lady of Carey Seminary They are Friar Stephen Bono Vincennes Ind Friar William Boyson Elyria Friar Maurus Hauer Terre Haute Ind Friar Alfred Houk Marion and Friar Dennis Schulze Chicago Heights Hl They will begin philosophical studies in September.
Eagles and friends are invited to a bingo party on Saturday evening at the Eagles hall. A following feed for members wives and sweethearts is planned for Tuesday evening at the hall. Meals will be served at 9 30.
Mr and Mrs Wilbur Fish and The Joy Bell Ringers from Columbus present The Life of Christ a service of sacred music at First Methodist Church Friday at 8 pm. Their career spans 36 states with 200000 miles traveled and a high return engagement rate. The program features 34 glasses with horizontal resonators plus piccolo cowbells a vibra harp a piano accordion and a London cricket bells crank instrument. The concert aims to be inspiring and open to the public.
On Tuesday August 29 during the 815 Mass four Friars of Our Lady of Carey Seminary will pronounce solemn vows at the Shrine church with the seminary choir assisting. The four are Friar Gerard Gerrity, Roger Bartman, Michael Brown and George Schroeder, all Boston area or nearby youths with Carey connections and prior pro seminarium training. This marks the start of their theological studies in the new scholastic year.
Ambulance trips Friday afternoon brought Marcus Schlachter and daughters Marilyn and Erlene along with Mrs Hilda Schlachter home from Findlay hospital. Saturday forenoon George Gorsuch was taken to his home southwest of town from Findlay hospital. Mrs Charles Snyder recovering from gall bladder operation came home from Findlay hospital Saturday afternoon. Sunday afternoon Vernet Ruffing came home after a tumor operation, after two weeks in hospital. Pepey Ann Schlachter was brought home Tuesday from Findlay hospital. Charles Laney, son of Mr and Mrs Everitt Laney, was driven home Tuesday from a physician’s office on S Patterson Street after a tonsillectomy.
Carey Robert Gardner is named agent for the Farmers' and Sportsmen's Protective Association which designates Donelson's restaurant Turnbell's plumbing shop Shafer's garage The Corner Hardware and the Wigwam as places where the public may procure hunting and fishing licenses in Carey.
Kingsley resident Mrs John Schichtel writes of a cyclone along the Michigan path reaching her farm on June 7. She notes crops damaged by rain and flooding but radish seed crop saved. she and family plan to resume correspondence after a long delay.
A 90-pound son was born to Mr and Mrs Claire Chaney of McCutchenville on Saturday night. Mrs Chaney was Miss Catherine Puchta of Carey before her marriage.
Large crowds from Pittsburgh New Castle and Youngstown filled Carey Shrine area with three excursion trains and buses. Masses began at 5 a m and continued to moon with a 7 a m Solemn High Mass celebrated by Rev Mascaloni. Afternoon rites included blessing relics and a candle procession ending in Benediction led by Very Rev Constant Klein. Next Sunday pilgrims from Louisville Covington Terre Haute Indianapolis and Cincinnati will arrive on a 4 05 a m train with 5 a m masses and a sunrise candle procession in Shrine park.

They toured Lincoln's birthplace Hodgenville Ky Jackson's Hermitage in Nashville Norris Dam the Smoky Mountains Savannah Charleston Portsmouth Navy Yard Virginia Beach Williamsburg Rockefeller's restored city Jamestown Yorktown and Richmond Mount Vernon Skyline Drive and White Sulphur Springs noted as a health resort.
Mrs W P Edie of Mr Blanchard and their guest Dr Flor Smith-Goodhue of Sanibel Island Fla spent Tuesday of last week at the home of Mr and Mrs Somandaw and Mr and Mrs CG Laird Last Thursday’s paper carried an article about Dr Smith-Goodhue and her medical career in Cardington.

The conservation division reports stocking of Ohio lakes and streams with bass bluegill and other fish delayed until October due to an unusually successful hatchery season. Hundreds of stocking applications have been received and fish will be released in public waters only. Also notes a state raccoon farm's strong year with about 1200 cubs slated for release, and July removals of vermin from game farms including owls hawks crows cats dogs weasels starlings hawks nests. Carey Rifle and Pistol club to meet August 25 at 8 pm.
Pastor Roy B Leedy of Memorial Evangelical Church travels to Columbus for the 102nd session of the Ohio conference of the Evangelical Church. Bishop George E Epp presides. Park Walter serves as lay delegate. Leedy presents Centennial Night sketch The Centennial of Missions and precentennial history notes. An earlier Ohio conference is noted as the denomination's first offspring nurtured by the original body.
The Herbert family reunion was held at Meadowbrook Park Bascom last Sunday with seventy five attendees. Officers elected: President Carl Herbert of Fostoria, vice president Harry Souder of Fostoria, secretary-treasurer Corrine Thomas of Carey North. Next year’s reunion will also be at Meadowbrook Park on the third Sunday in August.
Richard Weaver takes over the Dutch Mill business at the east end of Fairfield street from Kenneth Baugh. Weaver operates a general shop for a number of months and offers washing services and hamburgers with cold drinks, tea, and tobacco products.

Jack Wright a 19 year old son of Mr and Mrs Dean Wright was seriously injured when his 1937 Ford V eight overturned on Route 23 south of Crawford. The vehicle struck fence posts a large oak tree and a telephone pole before stopping against another tree. He was unconscious and removed from the wreckage and taken to Findlay hospital after care at Bristoll. He sustained a bruised left shoulder and cuts to his left hip with no broken bones detected by initial exam.
Tools were stolen from Schmidt Bros machine shop on North Street after a Tuesday night break in. A rear window was broken to gain entry and items worth between 10 and 200 dollars disappeared, with several welding tools among the missing items. Police were investigating and requested any witnesses to come forward.
