The Ohio conservation and natural resources commission kept the staggered hunting season dates August 9 despite protests from Wood county landowners who fear soybean harvest interference. Open season runs November 8 to 30 for most game, with rabbits allowed through December and midweek hunting for rabbits pheasants and partridges.
Several family reunions are calendared for late summer. The Wright family hosts a reunion at Elm Hills with J W Wright of near Crawford as association president. The Herbert reunion occurs August 20 at Meadowbrook Park Bascom with Floyd Herbert president Roy Myers vice president and Margaret Minder secretary treasurer. The John and Mary Bowers reunion meets August 27 at Carey Park. The Beck reunion is September 3 at 620 College Street Findlay with Wilbur Beck president and Katheryn Wise secretary.
Barber Karam of 1976 E Woodbridge Detroit was arrested Monday night at Carey Park by sheriff deputies for possession of untaxed liquor. He appeared before Justice W Campbell and was fined 200 dollars plus costs and 30 days in jail. His Ford V eight stays held until the fine is paid. if not paid the car will be sold to satisfy the fine.
Miss Lois Herbage a physical education teacher in the Carey public schools has resigned to take a similar job in her hometown Sacinaw. She spent the summer assisting at a girls camp in Denmark Maine and the vacancy remains unfilled.
Glenn Conley a clerk with the Nickel Plate at Fostoria suffered a broken nose head cuts leg lacerations and body bruises in a recent auto accident. His car was demolished and he is the son of Dr and Mrs R C Conley of Carey but he is able to return to work.

A daughter was born Monday August 7 to Mr and Mrs Russell Twining in a family announcement.
A local group including J A McDaniel and M D Shafer fished the reefs of Lake Erie and reported seventy eight pickerel caught during the day. McDaniel also landed a two and a half pound black bass.
On Sunday morning the Methodist church held its annual election of trustees and a lay delegate to the new Methodist conference. Fred S Lee W W Mc Chesney Jr and Frank Frederick Jr were elected trustees for the three year term ending in 1942. Mrs S R Bame was elected lay delegate to the annual conference with W Lanning as alternate.
Dr and Mrs R Copley report their son Heath, a chiropractic student in Nashville, is now taking a special hydrotherapy course at the college in Red Boiling Springs about 80 miles from Nashville.
A chicken supper will be served Sunday August 20 at St Boniface Church New Riegel. Serving begins at 4 PM and the public is invited.
Palm Leaf Rebekah lodge will meet Tuesday evening August 22 in regular session. The meeting opens promptly at 8 o'clock.

Miss Mauvelyn Hendricks daughter of Mayor and Mrs Hendricks received six letters from England via the first trans Atlantic Airways mail by the northern route. The sender, a Norwich England insurer and stamp collector, was on the route and Miss Hendricks kept five letters for his collection after three days travel. The pair had exchanged letters for two years since high school.
Mr and Mrs A E Donelson with children Josean Diane and Bobby and relatives will depart Saturday night for Gouhas River Sault Ste Marie Out for a fishing trip. Mr and Mrs Hagley Miss Gladys and Bobby Wickham will stay ten days while the others remain four weeks.
J F Dible RCA dealer has stocked a new line of Victor and Victor Bluebird classical and instrumental records and popular dance records. He holds a large stack on hand for selection.
William Holloway a Cates school actor will wed Miss Dorothy Sefton Saturday afternoon at four in Second Trinity Lutheran Church in Daston.
The College of Agriculture at Ohio State University announces its spring honor roll for students with B averages or better. Harold E Reinhart from southwest of Carey is among those honored.
Amos Black and Paul De Amicis won the summer playground softball and baseball awards. Black scored 43 runs in 16 softball contests to win, while De Amicis posted 12 safeties in 29 at bats over 8 games, beating Bill Bakies by six points. The season concluded last Friday with 570 total attendees.
A stock truck driven by L Strider of Johnstown caught fire about two miles north of town near the baseline road. The fire damaged the cab interior and front of the truck, but gasoline did not explode. Carey firemen, called from near the Seneca county line, located the vehicle across the line under Carey protection.
Walter Patnoe of Cleveland visited town to check on his father G W Patnoe of E Findlay street who fell down stairs last Thursday night and is in poor health. The elder Patnoe became confused while in the upper hall and the fall extended the full flight. Mrs G W Palnoe has recently been partially crippled from a basement stairs fall. Local residents and out of town visitors circulated at the Palace home during the visit.
Aug 11 Zanesville Ohio reports a push to vote in November on a council-manager form of government replacing the current mayor council charter. Proponents urge council to place the issue on ballots. failure to act may lead to petition drives to place the question on the general election. The present charter has a mayor and seven council members.
A transformer on South Street near Findlay Street and Kroger’s burned out on Saturday evening around 9 30 causing a two hour blackout. A fallen radio aerial on the Kos restaurant property shorted an electric line. A new transformer was installed but failed to fix the trouble and candles and kerosene lamps were used as light.
Coroner returns verdict of accidental death for Mos Winters after a street crash in Findlay. The accident occurred near Sandusky Street when an automobile struck Winters and another victim, with Miss OmaSaul 1001 Park Street, Findlay, operating the car.
A petition circulates asking the village council to raise the mayor's salary to 100 dollars a month beginning with the 1940 41 term of office. The item highlights civic effort to adjust compensation for the mayor.

Current will be fed into REA lines by October 1 in the Berwick area after delays in obtaining transformers for the local substation. Officials say delays slowed progress but work continues to complete the Berwick site.
Carey wins the season opener 1 to 0 in 11 innings against Marion Independents. Lefty Mack, ex Fremont pitcher, and Brown, ex Columbus Red Bird, pitched for Carey and Marion respectively. England made a perfect 8th inning throw to home plate to prevent a run. Carey, managed by Bob Howard, features Carey and Wharton players and faces Marion Colored A C at Lakeland field.
About 25 agriculture teachers from Crawford Hancock and Wyandot counties met at the local high school for an all day session. W G Weiler of Columbus and E W Heusch directed the meeting focusing on practical agriculture teaching and student needs. R H Sturgeon, new Richwood instructor, attended and plans to move with his family to the district.
Wyandot county township trustees plan a picnic at the Upper Sandusky fairgrounds on Tuesday evening August 22. Supper will be served in the dining hall at 6 oclock. OR Thomas of Leesville and Charles Baker will address the meeting. invited are former Wyandot trustees and clerks and their families.
