Carey Exempted Village Board Pledges Extra Levy

The Carey Exempted Village Board of Education voted unanimously at its August 12 meeting to seek an additional one mill levy at the November election to cover current operating expenses. Rising costs in all school areas necessitate extra revenue. Donald Finley resigned to teach in Akron area schools for 1958 59. Lowell Shrider of Wayne was hired to fill the vacancy and will teach industrial arts and thermatics while assisting in coaching.

Wyandot County Real Estate Tax Tops One Million

County Treasurer Karl F. Kraus reports Wyandot county real estate tax collection exceeded one million dollars for the first time. With June 1957 closing, the year’s total reached $1,041,162.75, aided by higher tax rates, district-wide levies, and a strong June collection.

Monarch Foods Builds Distribution Plant In Columbus

Monarch Foods begins a $1,000,000 distribution plant in Columbus for the Monarch Finer Foods Division of Consolidated Foods Corporation. Governor O Neill attended the July 29 ground breaking on an 11 acre site in Lincoln Village. The facility includes a 10,000 square foot refrigerated area and 40 trucks serving a 100 mile radius. Earl Heitger says it will be the largest wholesale food distributing warehouse in Central Ohio.

Wyandot County Fair Dates and Activities

The Wyandot County Fair runs September 9 through 13 with judging from opening day to Friday morning. Junior Fair Day is Wednesday and racing programs occur Wednesday to Friday afternoons. The annual livestock and machinery parade is Friday, followed by national championship midget auto races Saturday. Membership tickets are available at county stores, the courthouse secretary’s office, and from fair board members until August 30. The Wyandot County Ministerial Association will sponsor union church services at the fairgrounds Sunday evening, September 7.

Reverend Crew Relocate To Carey Farm Home

Rev Mrs L G Crew moved last Wednesday from Cardington to a farm south of Carey on County Road 9. They are renting from Mr and Mrs Ray Hunter. Rev Crew has retired from active ministry in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. They have two daughters in the community Mrs Kenneth Spencer Route 15 and Mrs Earl Broadwater south of town.

A. B. Chance Company reports a net profit of 425,890 on sales of 10,207,711 for the first half of 1958. Earnings per share are 85 cents, down from 1.00 last year as costs for materials and labor reduced income despite near 1957 sales. Porcelain Products Inc. is a Chance subsidiary.

Mr and Mrs Jack Puchta and children Kathy Bobby and Ricky vacationed with Mr and Mrs Thomas Parrish at a cabin in Point Pelee National Park Canada. They stayed the week of August 2 with Mr Puchta three days. Mrs Puchta and the children returned to Sandusky by ferry across Lake Erie.

Heath To Receive Master’s Degree From Ohio State

William Heath an instructor at Carey High School will graduate August 29 from Ohio State University with a master of arts in guidance and counseling. He also holds a B A in industrial arts from OSU. Graduation exercises begin at 9 AM at St John’s Arena on campus.

Carey Golf Tourney Plans Completed

Plans for the annual Carey open golf tournament were completed at a Monday night meeting. It will be held on the Fairview course near Findlay with qualifying from Aug 19 to Sept 3 and cards due to the handicap committee. Play begins Sept 7 at 8 am and continues for two Sundays with a final playoff Sept 21 and a dinner prize event.

Diploma Milestone for Wendell Allen Hackworth at Carnegie

Wendell Allen Hackworth received his diploma in medical laboratory and X ray technology from Carnegie Institute in Cleveland during combined commencement exercises with Carnegie College attended by 250 graduates. A Carey High School 1956 alumnus, he joined the hospital staff at Willard after training last March and held leadership roles in student activities while studying.

Home Extension Plans Activities In Crawford Ridge Carey Groups

Twenty two members from Crawford Ridge and Carey Home Demonstration groups met for a picnic dinner at Memorial Park Shelterhouse. Leaders were elected and plans discussed for September meetings and upcoming projects including vegetable cooking sessions, clothes laundering, glass etching, Christmas Open House and yeast bread. The programs are free and sponsored by the Ohio State Department of Agriculture.

Mr. and Mrs. David King of near Tiffin celebrated their golden wedding anniversary with a family dinner at Turner's restaurant in the city. Ill health limited guests to close relatives and neighbors. They wed Aug 18 1908 and have three children, Marguerite, Daniel, and Mrs. Edgar Bloom.

National Foundation Broadens Objectives Dinner Meeting

Charles Reed Jr of Upper Sandusky chaired a Wyandot County National Foundation dinner at the Evergreens. He paid tribute to the late Leo T Jones while Daniel Hays outlined new plans focusing on polio patients, birth defects, CNS diseases, arthritis, and rheumatism. About 20 attendees included Mrs Russell Hagley and Mrs W L Stombaugh. The meal was paid by attendees.

Injured in 3 car collision on Mahoning Ave Bridge

Mr and Mrs Herbert H Miller suffered head wounds arm and shoulder injuries after a three car crash on the wet Mahoning Ave bridge in Youngstown Friday afternoon. David Davis 20 of Youngstown drove an Oldsmobile that struck the Millers Buick. Davis was charged with reckless operation and hospitalized for possible concussion.

A meeting to organize a sheriff's posse in Wyandot county was held Tuesday evening at the city building. W. L. Stombaugh was elected first captain and Morris Gillespie of Upper Sandusky second captain. An additional meeting is set for 8 pm Tuesday at the city building for all interested horsemen.

Sister Mary Louise, daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Myers made her final profession at the Franciscan motherhouse chapel in Tiffin on Tuesday Aug 12 as part of an eight member class. Two Youths Held In Market Burglary

Frederick Nye 18 of Delaware and Jerry Baldridge 19 of Carey bound to Wyandot county grand jury on grand larceny charges for allegedly breaking into Scheck's Market on Christmas Eve stealing about 3600 in cash and checks. Baldridge captured in Hillsdale Michigan Aug 11 and released on 2000 bond Aug 14. Nye bound over from juvenile court after 2500 bail posted locally.
