Carey Exempted Village Schools set September 3 as opening day with sessions until 2 15 p m. Morning and afternoon half classes staggered starting Sept 3 and 4 with letters to parents. Bus routes detailed and immunization requirements noted for poliomyelitis smallpox diphtheria whooping cough and tetanus.
Carey merchants announce Side Walk Days on August 22 23 with free parking from 9 to 9 Friday and 9 to 6 Saturday. Drawings and bargains inside and out highlight the event. Businessmen meet Wednesday at 5 30 p.m. at Jack Ball Restaurant to promote unity and cooperative promotion.
Bowl-Era Lanes owner says Gooch Lantern will close in August for dining room remodeling. Carey will gain its first complete dining facility with a sound partition separating from bowling lanes. Expected reopening by early fall with Carey’s Coach Lantern Dining Room.
On Sunday August 17, over 12 000 spectators watched 31 competitors vie for four national titles in the third annual event at Bowling Green. Jack Walter of Carey finished fifth in the 18 000 pound class as officials labeled the three day meet a complete success with attendance totaling about 21 000, up from last year and 1967 figures.

Boys must wear socks with shirts tucked in unless square bottom, hair kept above eyes ears or shirt collar, and clean shaven with sideburns to ear. Girls should wear dresses or skirts of respectable length with blouses tucked in, square bottom blouses allowed, culotte skirts permissible if full front and back. Cooperation expected for a better school year.
A Wyandot County Sheriff report details a Sunday night collision on county road 99 north of Carey. Driver Herman F. Emerine and passenger John J. Emerine sustained minor injuries when the 1959 car failed to stop at a sign and struck the road’s north bank. the vehicle was totaled.

Frances Caple received Junior Civic Beautification honors while Junior Spader Awards placed 3rd in State. Infant Maria Consolata Brodman died at 15 pm Wednesday August 13 in Blanchard Valley Hospital five hours after birth. Daughter of Lea and Irma Yost Brodman Route 2 Carey. Survived by parents, sisters Joan Marie Tiffin Karen Glenda Marilyn Gean Alice and brothers Robert Charles Patrick all at home. Graveside rites held 1 pm Thursday August 14 at St. Marys Cemetery. Rev Hubert Kobinski officiated. arrangements by Bristol Funeral Home.
Firefighters quickly controlled a mattress blaze at 226 Dow Street Darrell Cole residence at 921 pm August 14. Carey Fire Dept volunteers and 13 firefighters responded. cause remains undetermined.

Carey Board meeting notes seek a room for 15 to 20 Head Start children in the Carey School District. Board also approves substitutes and several cafeteria staff hires while considering House Bill 531 and rising lunch prices. A stadium project funded by the Class of '69 with American Legion support is nearing completion.
Carey Boy Scouts planned to march in the September 6 parade honoring Neil Armstrong in Wapakoneta Ohio but were blocked by Armstrong Power Committee rules. Troop 51 of Carey had hoped to join with Harding Area Council guidance but were told no units may march, disappointing leaders and families.
