In Carey Ohio the village council accepted the resignation of Dallas Bland for residing outside the corporate limits and appointed Charles W Mabey to fill the unexpired term. Mabey was sworn in as councilman. The July 21 1969 minutes were approved along with Claim Ordinance No 1569. The meeting covered street sweeper purchase for $1.00 and utility permit inquiries, plus insurance and repair considerations for Well No 2. Police statistics for July 1969 were reviewed and plans to inspect the East Findlay Street railroad crossing were noted. The council discussed boiler safety valve removal and planned police car repairs. A 1964 Econoline pickup offered by Pfeiffer Hardware was noted for the water meter reader at $700.00. The next meeting was set for August 18 1969.
Wyandot TB and Health Association with Wyandot County Health Department arrange a free chest X-Ray cruise for county residents 18 and older. The unit stops at Carey Furniture and Gas Co office August 18, Porcelain Products and Carey Plastics for shifts August 19, and National Lime August 20, with hours listed. The article also recalls Father Joseph Gloden bringing a Virgin image to Carey and a 1875 procession from French town to Carey, marked by heavy rain but umbrellas and strong parish devotion.
Report describes a statue procession to Carey met by a thundering storm. Clouds clashed before the church as an immense crowd gathered and rain poured down in a cloudburst. In 1878 Pope Leo XIII canonically erected the Confraternity of Our Lady of Consolation at Carey.
James A Kromer aged 16, son of Mr and Mrs Ralph Kromer of Lindsay, was severely injured July 30 when motorcycle was struck by a Penn Central train on County Road 109. He suffered a broken ankle a cut eye and elbow a back leg injury and required spleen removal surgery. He remains in Fremont Memorial Hospital in fair condition.
The Jr Spaders and Carey Garden Club planted the flowers in a planter at Chuck Schings Citgo Gas Station as part of the Community Beautification Program. The display brightens the town and earns compliments from Village Vue readers.
The Wood County Fairgrounds host the third annual National Tractor Pulling Championship August 15-17 with over 150 tractor pullers vying for national honors. Jack Walter of Carey returns, aiming for another strong showing after finishing third in both middleweight and heavyweight last year in the exhibition class.
Edwin and Mrs. Downing of Memorial Park Boulevard return from a Florida vacation. They watched the Apollo 11 liftoff on July 16 amid a large crowd along the roadsides. They toured Cape Kennedy before the launch and spent the rest of the trip at Riviera Beach. Debra Shafer, granddaughter, broke a wrist and could not join the trip though she has recovered.
Starting today the Carey Boy and Cub Scouts will canvass homes in Carey and surrounding areas to sell Carey Times subscriptions. Half the proceeds go to their troop and pack. campaign runs through August 27. One year in Ohio is 2 dollars with a dollar to scouts. out of state 4 dollars with two dollars to scouts.
State patrol investigated a two vehicle crash on US 23 two miles north of Carey at 9 50 am Friday injuring two people. One car was driven by Arba Row Jr 17 Route One Carey northbound.
