Father Eric Heiquit OFM Conv will preach the novena honoring Our Lady of Consolation from August 6 to 15. A Jeffersonville Indiana native, he entered the Conventual Franciscans in 1944 and was ordained in Albany on June 3, 1950. He has served parishes in Louisville Milwaukee Gary Grand Rapids and now conducts apostolate.

Pilgrimage to Carey Spurs Miracle Rainward Example
In 1875 a seven mile procession from Frenchtown to Carey accompanied the statue of the Virgin. Despite heavy rain at start, sun shone on the statue during the march, and crowds gathered as the procession reached Carey. The event sparked pilgrimages and reported miracles, with canonization of the Confraternity of Our Lady of Consolation in 1878. Shrine cafeteria plans announce opening on August 8 10 with multiple snack and beverage stands serving pilgrims.

Carey Eagles Lodge member John Seifert and Theo dore's Creations provided an ice cream feast with large banana splits, candy and model car kits donated by The American Legion.

Reginia Weaver and Patrick Klein of Rt. 2 Carey among about 850 youth scholars at Purdue for the American Institute of Cooperation summer session August 6 9. Delegates from England Denmark Puerto Rico and Canada join a three day program stressing youth involvement in farm cooperatives and agribusiness leadership. Mary Lou Brooks National 4H rep says cooperation is the pacesetter as 3 000 agricultural leaders and 17 rural youth organizations participated.

More than two thousand people watched Vanlue’s August parade kicking off a two day homecoming with bands from Vanlue Mohawk Riverdale Van Buren Carey Arlington Arcadia and Cory Rawson. Linda Caudill crowned by Kathy Grose Helms on the reviewing stand near the post office. Snyder Lumber of Carey and Vanlue earned the commercial float prize for a 450 year old redwood cut. Kiddie Parade drew about three thousand viewers Friday night.

Two youths injured in one car crash near county road 28
A late night one car crash on county road 28 near state route 199 sent Linda Lasley 16 and Greg Enders 17 to Blanchard Valley Hospital. The westbound car left the road, hit an Ohio Power Co pole, Enders suffered serious head and facial injuries, Lasley moderate facial injuries, no tickets issued.
