Wyandot County Red Cross Seeks Blood Drive Volunteers

Wyandot county chapter of the American Red Cross calls for volunteers to staff upcoming blood donation visits. Each visit needs 20 to 25 aides in roles such as hostesses registrars and nurses aides. They plan 7 visits yearly producing 125 pints per visit rotating through county communities. Interested residents should contact Volunteer Service Chairman in their area, starting with Mrs. Ruby Criger Carey.

W W Clark Returns to Carey as New Manager

Giles Simonis resigns after six years as manager of the Carey branch of Smith Agricultural Chemical Co. W W Clark, previously with the Carey plant and then Indianapolis since 1950, will take over as manager. He is staying with the Newhards until housing for his wife and son is found. Earl F Cline of Columbus production manager for Smith Co visited Carey with his wife. The couple lived in Carey years ago and has many friends here.

A 6 pound 14 ounce boy named James Scott joined Mr and Mrs Richard Spayd at Blanchard Valley hospital at 1155 pm on August 1. Betty Lee Haines is his mother. James Scott’s sister is Holly Jane aged 34. A second birth, a 65 pound 7 ounce daughter was born at Wyandot Memorial hospital at 825 pm Monday to Mr and Mrs Gilbert Orians of the Upper Sandusky area.

The Carey board of education met on August 1 with John H. Herrick and Frank Conrad from Ohio State University. Herrick presented a preliminary analysis forecasting needs for the next five years, stressing vocational agriculture rooms and near-zero music department space as top priorities. Dog Warden Reports June Sheep and Poultry Losses

County Dog Warden Jack Stalter of Upper Sandusky notes June claims for sheep and poultry killed or injured by dogs approached $500. July claims fell to about $150 with $32 sheep in Mifflin township, $24 in Crane, $35 poultry in Mifflin, and $51 sheep in Crawford township.

Eugene Jacoby of Bernard's Furniture Store returned from Chicago where he attended Bigelow-Sanford Carpet Co.'s carpet laying institute. Allan Kinnear awarded the diploma as carpet mechanic. The program, held in Chicago, drew national stores including Marshall Field's. Jacoby also stayed at the Morrison hotel during the visit.

Carey Shuffleboard Tournament Sees High Scoring Finals

A Tuesday night Carey Shuffleboard Club event drew a good crowd at Carey Memorial Park. In the finals Free Scoarse and Carl Mosafros beat Mayor Grover Wagner and Mrs S R Bame 79 to 16. Consolation finalists were Mrs Karl Hosafros and Mrs L N Zahn versus L N Zahn and Clinton Kear, Zahn-Kear winning 31 to 17. A Labor Day tournament is planned to crown club champions in both men and women divisions with cups awarded.
