Conaghan Reunion Held at Carey Park in Spite of Rain

The Dennis Conaghan descendants gathered Sunday August 7 at Carey Park. Eighteen? eighty five attendees enjoyed a large dinner and program despite rain. Officers elected: President William Manges, Secretary and Treasurer Grace Manges.

Col Walton Weber Dies Suddenly at 79 in Columbus

Col Walton Weber, 79, former bailiff of the district appellate court and past Ohio department commander of the G A R, died of a cerebral hemorrhage at his son’s home in Columbus. Town in good condition praised by deputy fire marshal

A. J. Reth of Mansfield, deputy state fire marshal, visited Carey Wednesday and commended Fire Chief Ho Wonder and the department for maintaining a high standard of fire safety. He praised Carey’s absence of hazards for a town its size and urged a few changes to stay vigilant.

The Gintert and Hickle families gathered at the M.S Mitten home for their annual reunion on Sunday. Over 100 attendees enjoyed a cafeteria style picnic dinner. Officers were re elected and the reunion will return to the same venue next year.

Real Silk Hosiery Demonstration Draws 3000-Pound Car

The Marion branch of Real Silk Hosiery Mills staged a midday street demonstration in Carey to show stocking strength. A 3 000 pound Studebaker was drawn by a Real Silk stocking on a small coupe. Miss Della Gilliland led the local effort and represented the firm.

Death of Free man Brashares at Marion Home

Charles Bland received word that his uncle Free man Brashares died Monday at 10 a.m. at the home of his son Bert Brashares in Marion. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. and burial followed in Marion cemetery.

William Schlachter Dies From Thresher Fire

William Schlachter of two miles southwest of New Riegel died after his clothing caught fire when a coal oil can exploded while starting a threshing engine. He died at Mercy Hospital, Tiffin, Monday night at 10. Funeral was at Frenchtown church with burial in the church cemetery. Born April 15, 1863, he left a wife Lucy Poppenburg and seven children, with several relatives and church affiliations noted. He had long operated a threshing outfit and recently bought the Grine farm near Carey.
