Carey High School Plans May 18 Graduation Exercises

The Carey high school graduation exercises will be held Thursday evening May 18 with Dr. W. Elliot of Ohio Wesleyan University as speaker. Elliot has served as Mt. Vernon superintendent and taught at Wittenberg College and Chicago University. A senior play and solos accompanied the previous evening at the high school.

Carey Defeats Upper Sandusky for Second Time This Season

Cloyce Wentling's Blue and Gold warriors beat Upper Sandusky High School 7 to 6 on Monday afternoon at the Swan Rubber Co. plant diamond. Carey trailed 3–0 after the first inning as Upper Sandusky struck first. Carey rallied in the second to take the lead, added a run in the third, and pulled ahead with three runs in the fourth. Lab relieved and shut out the opposition after the fourth, securing the victory with two insurance runs in the seventh.

Mrs Orien D Wilgus states Lt Orien D Wilgus and his crew are safe at their home base in India. The pilot of a C46 transport on the India Burma route had been missing since March 22 with a report on March 28. A telegram dated April 5 from the adjutant general’s office confirms he is well and safe.

The Spring Pilgrimage to the Shrine of Our Lady of Consolation opens with a novena from April 27 to May 5 in preparation for the Feast. Daily services include Masses at 6:15 and 10:20 a.m., devotions at 2:30 p.m., and prayers. On May 6, feast Masses at 7 and 8:45 a.m. with prayers at 2:30 p.m. and benediction at 8 p.m. The octave observance runs May 7 to 14 with Masses and prayers each day. All times are Eastern War Time.

Fourth Brother in Service joins Navy from Ohio family

Jerome Fox, son of the late Eriuéet and Mrs Fox, left Wednesday to enlist through Toledo Navy recruiting station. He had lived in Temperance Michigan and Vanlue since April, with wife Ruth Young of Upper Sandusky and three children Dixie Lee Cornelius Joseph and David William. He is the fourth of six brothers in service, alongside Pvt William Fox missing in action in Italy, Pvt Ernest P Fox in England, Col Ralph W Fox in the Marines at New River NC, Matthias of Fostoria and Donald of Detroit awaiting call due to age.

Truman Shull appointed to Hancock County School Board

Truman Shull, Amanda township farmer, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Perry Beard on the Hancock county school board. Beard resigned after moving to a farm near Carey.
