The CAUSE group seeks a rehearing of a judge’s ruling allowing San Juan Hills High School construction. A hearing is set for 1 30 p.m. August 14 after a continuance. District spokesman David Smollar says CAUSE may abandon appeals if the district waives roughly $6,000 in court costs and fees CAUSE was ordered to pay.
Heermenegildo Ortega an illegal immigrant caught in a San Juan Capistrano sweep was given a one day pass to Orange County to visit his daughter and foster son at Orangewood Children's Home. Judge Gary G. Bischoff urged immigration officials to allow Ortega to remain in the United States to care for the 11 year old HIV positive boy and his daughter who lost their mother to AIDS.
The planning commission voted five to zero Tuesday to approve a 55100 square foot event and education center at St. Margaret's School in town.
At a Capistrano Unified meeting four Ambuehl supporters praised the K-8 proposal citing academics while 14 San Juan backers warned of racial isolation. Superintendent Fleming described a June plan adding a San Juan dual immersion program with Spanish and English instruction and cross school activities. Sixth graders would choose between enrollment and attending Marco Forster.
