A. Lavar Taylor, 45, a Democrat tax attorney from San Juan Capistrano, filed papers ahead of the August 9 filing deadline to run for governor. He urged citizens to participate and vote amid general voter apathy.
The city invites residents to a public meeting at 6 p.m. August 13 at the Alipaz Street community center to discuss environmental impact concerns for a 29 acre JSerra High School south campus project. The session is for listening to issues, not detailing specifics.
A coalition of American Indians and environmentalists filed suit July 24 against the city City Council and JSerra High School developers claiming the May rezoning vote on Junipero Serra Road and Camino Capistrano violated procedures and that further environmental studies are needed.
Irvine based Travel and USA, claiming the world’s largest RV selection, eyes Capistrano for a conceptual plan to build a 70 acre resort at the north end with 200 plus campsites, eight dealers, and centers for recreation, fitness, sports, travel and dining. City Council slated to review Aug 5 with a possible Planning Commission workshop.
The Rancho Mission Viejo Company donates 15000 to the Chamber of Commerce for a platinum sponsorship funding 2500 in scholarships and chamber events. The one year membership includes expositions with health and fitness expo in January and home expo in spring. The chamber’s finances improve after a 25000 city advance.
Sayed Husini, Afghanistan born weaver and musician, participates in World Weaving A Common Thread 2003 at the Mission. The event gathers about 60 indigenous artisans for a weekend of textiles, wall art, jewelry, baskets and more, with items ranging from five dollars to thousands. Proceeds support economic self sufficiency and village prosperity.
