United Press reports in Stamford Conn on June 27 that murder, not accident, theories gain favor over the death of Waldo R Ballou at Mrs Helen M Angle's home. Police Chief Brennan cites evidence a second man was in the flat when Ballou was harmed.
Sheriff Adam Oberlin, armed with a temporary injunction from Common Pleas Judge Ake, stopped construction on the Harris building at Market and Third NE. City Solicitor Ruff sought the order claiming 10 bay windows would protrude four feet onto the sidewalk, endangering pedestrians. The case, connected to similar prior actions, sets July 6 as the trial date with a $600 bond posted.
Weather notes show unsettled conditions with forecasted highs and lows. The Y M C A announces houses on a new site will be offered for sale and moved, with inquiries at the Y M C A office.
Police in St. Louis granted bodyguard protection to Rev. John L. Brant after threatening letters as the search for Rev. Louis R. Patmont in Detroit continues. Brant was a colleague in the Danville effort against liquor interests. Church leaders nationwide welcomed the protective action though concern grows that Patmont may be dead.
Johnson Sherrick is rapidly recovering from illness after a stroke of paralysis over a week ago. He is much stronger and likely to leave his bed soon.
The Salvation Army plans its annual picnic for poor mothers and children next Wednesday at Meyers Lake. Dinner will be provided. Cars depart from the square at 9 a.m. A program of baseball and other sports has been arranged.
Mrs Mary Jonissi faced grand larceny charges over $614 alleged by Eli Borden. Judge Quinn released her after the prosecutor failed to appear and amid questions about the case. Borden later found $395 in his cellar and the court postponed further action for investigation.
In Salem Massachusetts the June 27 fire left thousands homeless as relief networks mobilized. Red Cross and Salvation Army stations, militia tents and bread lines supported about 15 000 evacuees while investigators search the ruins for victims. Only six fatalities reported.
United Mine Workers official Tim Green arrived from Indianapolis delaying adjournment of the Ohio wage scale conference. Miners rejected operators 44.61 cents per ton and operators rejected miners 49.64 cents. A vote to adjourn passed as Green urged no disbanding with Gov Cox backing settlement efforts. Eastern Ohio operators reported a final state-wide proposal of 41.12 cents per ton.
Trustee in bankruptcy of Armor Clad Mfg Co at 1450 Mackay sold the real estate and personal property to W. W. Sproull for 10300. Sale to be confirmed next week by referee in bankruptcy A. M. McCarty.
A tidal wave linked to yesterday's seismic activity in southern Sumatra drove the Kintuck of the China Mutual Steam Navigation Co ashore in the Straits between Sumatra and Java. Passengers were native emigrants. Dunbar Day observed in schools honoring poet Paul Laurence Dunbar.

Gen J S Coxey will command Kelly's army of unemployed marching from San Francisco to Washington next week to press for labor relief. The bivouac at Alexandria Va opposite the capital awaits Col McLennan who holds Kelly's role. Coxey asks a Tuesday 8 25 meeting and plans to speak from the Capitol steps presenting the army's demands.
Senator Pomerene rejects exemptions for labor unions and farmers from the Clayton anti trust bill calling them class legislation. He cites opposition to special privileges while reviewing exemptions and says he will vote for a version that serves union labor, capital, and the public. Local iron workers urged support, but Pomerene remains noncommittal.
Lima Ohio reports a fierce wind and electrical storm causing heavy damage. Henry Kerrick died of heart trouble while rushing home, Lawrence Crider and his 13 year old son Russell were fatally shocked by a live wire, and Earl Woodruff was struck by lightning in his barn.
The Canton Playgrounds association moves from Frank Shelton’s office at Central High School to rooms donated by H. H. Timkin, president of the Municipal League, in the McKinley hotel building. He hints at criticizing Governor Cox and may tour the state by automobile, declaring he has nothing to say about a speaking schedule though close friends expect a rapid campaign start.
New York June 27 experts began auditing the Claflin firms as part of a planned reorganization. The creditors and receivers kept plans private while Marindale and Juillard signaled optimism that data gathering will take about a week to rehabilitate the finances. Wall Street viewed the impact as limited amid steady business conditions.
In Toledo on June 27, a male ostrich named Mr. Toledo, brought from California to the Toledo zoo three years ago, died by hanging self in a wire fence. Park keepers say extreme heat drove the bird to madness and the incident was self inflicted.
Engineer Eckroate of the N. C. T. presented curves needed as the traction company moves the terminal from the public square to a leased lot behind the new Market avenue block. At 2 PM Ruff, Scanlon, T. K. Harris, and two council committees discussed franchises for tracks on 3rd and 4th streets and the curves on Market Avenue, Cleveland Avenue, and Walnut Avenue.
A small blaze in a shed at Jacob Woll's Beldenav NE and 11th street prompted a local fire call at 12 30 on Saturday. The shed used as a smoke house for hams suffered only minor damage and the fire department battled the flames.
J. J. Snyder of Paris remains critically ill at Ingleside hospital with heart trouble after a week. Physicians fear recovery may be unlikely.
