Alcoa Appoints Two Top Men for Rockdale Works
John D. Harper will manage the Rockdale Works after 18 years with Alcoa. Len B. Neubert is named construction superintendent. Both are long time Alcoa engineers with deep Tennessee ties and family plans to relocate to Rockdale. The site lies near Sandow lignite fields in Milam County and will be connected by a six mile rail line. Lignite extraction will use both strip and underground mining as needed. The project marks a first for Alcoa using lignite-fired electric power at an American smelting plant.
