Light Vote Cast For Equalized School Tax

The school tax election passed 84 to 7 as per City Secretary Neomi Needham. Held at City Hall on Tuesday October 2 with election judge B. J. Matocha and assistants Miss Mary Burns and Mrs. John Ryan. After Curry School District consolidation the new district lacks a school tax but the 75 cent rate on 100 valuation was approved to fund school purposes.

Milam County Induction Call Increased to Fifteen Men

Milam County draft officials report the November induction call has risen from five to fifteen men. The group will depart for the Dallas Recruiting Station on November 6, joining a regional pool of 1,593 Central Texas men with dependents eligible for draft reclassification.

Last Rites Held For A. R. Butler

Funeral services for A. R. Butler 71 were at 4 p m Monday at the Rice Church with Rev P L Caperton. Burial in Rice Cemetery. He died September 30 after a long illness. Bertha M Scheler 62 died at St Edward Hospital October 2 1951 after a brief illness. Born March 23 1889 in Pleasant Hill Washington she lived in Clarkson 52 years and was part of a prominent local family. Funeral at Marek Burns October 3 1951 officiated by Rev R Tager. U of T Professor Speaks to Lions Club on Soviet Weaknesses

Dr Edward Taborsky social science professor at the University of Texas addressed the Lions Luncheon on October 2. A Czech native he outlined internal weaknesses of Soviet Russia and ways America could hasten its collapse through increased arms, propaganda, and aid to satellite nations. He recalled meeting Stalin in 1943 and Roosevelt in 1945, and noted his former role as secretary to President Benesh of Czechoslovakia.
