Cpl Lorenz Zelisko Honored After World War II Service
Cpl Lorenz F Zelisko enrolled at Camp Walters in February 1942 and served 32 months overseas. He fought in North Africa Sicily and Italy and fought in Southern France with the 1005th Signal Company under the 12th Air Force. He earned the Meritorious Service Plaque and the ETO ribbon with eight battle stars. Zelisko was discharged at Ft. Sam Houston Texas and is a Cameron High School and Texas Liberal College graduate. He is the son of the late Mrs Annie D Zelisko and brother of Mrs Leo Fuchs and A L Zelisko.

Tojo to be jailed after recovery says Eichleberger
Hideki Tojo, who claimed responsibility for starting the war in the Pacific and attempted suicide when arrested, will be jailed once recovered, General Eichleberger announced. Tojo is under American medical care and could be jailed within a week as 32 Japanese war criminals remain in custody.

Surrender of Japan Film at Cameron Theatre
The movietone news film of Japan's surrender aboard the Missouri in Tokyo Bay will screen at Cameron Theatre on September 27 and 28. Manager John Prude announced the first-ever showing and described MacArthur directing the capitulation ceremony aboard the battleship.

Streetman Sworn In as 11th District Commander
Emmett W. Streetman was sworn in as the 11th District Commander of the American Legion at the Texas State Convention in Fort Worth. He had been elected earlier and joins the State Executive Committee. A meeting is planned for October. H. G. Nami of San Antonio was elected State Commander after a spirited convention contest, with Cameron delegates Streetman, Joe Richter, and H. B. McClellen present.

Stanley Vaculin Returning Home From War Service
Stanley Vaculin, son of Mr and Mrs Vaculin of Cameron Rt 1, returns to the United States under War Department Readjustment. A 31 month SWPA veteran, he earned the Asiatic Pacific ribbon with four bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation ribbon with bronze star. He served with the 562d Engineer Boat Maintenance Battalion and saw action at New Guinea, Admiralty Islands, Leyte, and Luzon. Prior to induction Feb 19 1942 he farmed near Cameron. Pvt Charlie F Angell of Sheppard Field visited relatives over the weekend.

Walter Eichenhorst a United States Army Warrant Officer prisoner of war from Bataan and Corregidor was liberated on September 4 1945. His sister in California and wife in Lorain Ohio reported he was aboard a British hospital ship near Yokohama Bay and would be home soon. He weighed 130 pounds and described fair condition with malnutrition but hopeful for reunion and American food.

Jim Wells Officers Return For Forgeries Bid
Sheriff H. T. Sain and Deputy J. S. Mirenheimer of Jim Wells County went to Cameron on Monday to extradite D. T. Moody after forgery cargos were filed in that county. Merlin Lester, Cameron native and electrician's mate first class, has been honorably discharged from the Navy, according to the First Naval District Headquarters.

Wiley O. Whittington serves as yeoman third class USNR aboard the USS Wasp during the 3rd Fleet victory cruise. The carrier’s week of March 14–20 featured a 100-pound bomb breach, 102 casualties, but rapid readiness to launch. Seaman first class ER H Watson of Cameron is aboard one of the first Navy sea planes to land in Tokyo Bay. The Fleet Air Wing 1 Mariner crew circled for a landing as Allied naval power appeared before Tokyo. In the weeks before surrender, Wing 1 sank 16 ships damaged 31 destroyed one plane damaged two and destroyed two shipyards docks and three radio stations.

Mr and Mrs Emil Templin of Coleman formerly of Cameron were advised by the War Department that their son Willie Templin who had been listed as dead is alive. He enlisted before Pearl Harbor served in the Philippines and was captured at Corregidor later liberated and hospitalized. Their other son Henry Templin was killed in action in Europe.
