Cameron Temperatures Hit 48 Degrees Amid Mild North Texas Wake

Cameron recorded 48 degrees Wednesday morning marking a potential state low for the night while 7:30 a.m. readings showed 58 degrees. Massey Case Re-Set Here for October 6

Defense attorneys moved for a continuance in the Dr. Ola Dee Massey case in district court. Judge John Watson granted the delay due to the absence of a material defense witness, Mrs. Mattie Wheeler of Abilene, sister of Mrs. R. H. Johnson. County Attorney Bill Morrison pushed for a trial date as a special venire of 100 jurors must appear again on October 5.

Boy Hurt In Unusual Crash On West Main Street

Johnnie Balear fourteen, eighth grade student and Corner Cafe worker, was critically injured Saturday when his scooter crashed into a car driven by City Marshal Jim McGoldrick on West Main Street near North Travis. He underwent surgery for a severely injured arm. prognosis uncertain.

Soil deficiency retards crops in Milam County plan

County Agent J. W. Stufflebeme Jr. urges planting winter legumes on Milam County cropland. Only about 25 000 of 170 000 acres were planted last season. Proper inoculation and fertilization boost yields. trials show cotton gains and reduced root rot when following legumes. Legumes include vetch hubam clover Austrian winter peas and Melilotus Indica. Farmers should secure seed fertilizer and inoculant when moisture allows.

Widely Known Citizen Buried at Marlow

Marshall Mode, 64, died Tuesday at his Cameron home after years with heart disease. A barber by trade, he had lived in Cameron for 31 years and operated his shop for three decades. Funeral services were held at the Marlow Baptist Church with Rev. P. L. Caperton officiating. interment followed in Marlow cemetery.

Guard Unit Grows as Two Enlist in Operation 88888

Battery C, 239th Field Artillery Battalion begins recruiting in the National Guard campaign. Captain Rudolph Michalka swore in Clarence Hanel and Raymond Kurtz during drill at the armory. More enlistments expected in coming days as equipment shipments arrive. A time change for Paul Whiteman’s National Guard Assembly radio program to Mondays at 7 p.m. takes effect September 29.
