South Milan County resumes rapid oil activity with four new wildcats planned and one new well completed last week. Operators include W P Holloway of Austin with No 1 W T Pearson, Varn Petroleum Corp of Wichita with No 1 H L Christi, and Luling Oil & Gas Co with No 1 H H Coffield and No 1 Eastwood and Johnson. All wells target the Wilcox at 3500 feet on 100 acre leases. Ashland Oil & Refining Co reports its No 3 Blackburn Trammell near Milbur has moved pipe to a potential producer. Observed activity also covers Kre No 1 Cousal near Buckholz and Betchan Drilling Co on the Bickett tract southeast of Cameron.

Milam County marks fifty years of humanitarian service as the Milam County Chapter of the American Red Cross receives a golden anniversary certificate at the Milam County Courthouse. The award is signed by E Roland Harriman and Gen. James E. Collins retired, leaders of the national Red Cross.

Dr. David Shapiro 57 Dies in Port Arthur Burial Looms
Dr. David Shapiro, 57, died at 3 a.m. Saturday in a Port Arthur hospital after an extended illness. Funeral services were held in Port Arthur with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He practiced in Cameron with Newton Clinic from 1945 to 1962 then opened a private Port Arthur practice. He served as Cameron City Health Officer and on the Cameron School Board. Member of Milam County Medical Society AMA Texas Medical Association and AA of General Practitioners. Survived by wife of Port Arthur, daughter Mrs. William Goldstein of Brookhaven NY, and son Thomas, a Lamar Junior College student.

Reps To Tour Cameron For Dress Factory Survey
A Dallas based garment factory representative will visit Cameron to survey sites for a new plant and interview about 400 to 500 job applicants at the Chamber of Commerce office. Interviews start at 9 a.m. Saturday. Narvie Caperton, chair of the Cameron Industrial Foundation, says the facility will produce moderately priced dresses. He claims the firm would be among the largest dress manufacturers in the Southwest.
