Nelson on Trial for Killing Sandy Hall in Cameron

Jim Nelson faces trial in Cameron District Court for the murder of Sandy Hall in the spring killing. Hall died from a knife wound after a quarrel over rent. Texas Legion Honors State Commander At Cameron Barbecue

L Van Perkins recently elected State Commander was honored at a Cameron Legion Hall barbecue. Post No 9 hosted with John Sapp presiding and W R Hoover as toastmaster as notable speakers from Austin Rosebud Rockdale and Evwin Hardy Post No 9 attended. Barbecued chicken beef and goat were served with orange punch under Dr G E Sutton’s supervision.

Pioneers Celebrate Golden Anniversary in Cameron

Mr. and Mrs. Lou Meyers celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary at home in Cameron on September 16. Mrs. Meyers, formerly Margarette Pierce of Bridgeport Illinois, married in Fort Worth Texas on September 16 1883 and moved to Cameron. They have five living children Edna Meyers Ruby Carlton Von Rosenberg Pred Meyers and Lalla Meyers. Lalla and Von Rosenberg attended but illness kept a larger celebration from happening.

Highway Funds Allocate 100000 for City Underpass

The state highway department approves a 100000 appropriation for a highway and Santa Fe railroad underpass in Cameron. Bishop Byrne to Confirm 95 at St. Michael Burlington

Most Rev. C. E. Byrne, Bishop of the Galveston Diocese, will confirm a class of 95 at St. Michael's Church in Burlington on Sunday October 8. The ceremony begins at 8 o clock with Mass. Early returns show New Mexico repeal leading by better than two to one and Idaho close to that margin as repeal forces push toward ending liquor prohibitions. Congressman O H Cross of Waco will speak at Cameron Catholic parishs 50th anniversary celebration on October 11. An all day event features a parade at 11 with two brass bands, followed by meals on the grounds. Parishioners donated cattle hogs and poultry for the occasion.

Two Year Sentence for Harry Rogers in Milam County

A jury in District Court sentenced Harry Rogers aged 20 of Rogers to two years in the Texas penitentiary for the murder of Garnet Reardon near Wirebridge on May 26. The trial lasted a week with closing arguments, and a motion for a new trial followed the verdict.

Old Star Mother Visits Grave of Son in Europe Trip

Mrs. Lilian Beavers of Milano, a Gold Star Mother, returned September 14 from Europe where she was a guest of the government. Her son, a private in Battalion G, 90th Division of Texas, died September 29, 1918 after being gassed and buried at St. Michiel cemetery with other fallen soldiers. She praised the treatment of Gold Mothers aboard ships The President and S S Washington, and met her daughter Junita McClure in New York City August 24. Her Cameron visit followed with her son Thomas Henderson Beavers.
