A 16 000 foot Smackover deep oil test seven miles east of Lexington is reportedly easing its hold to about 6 000 feet. The No 1 S P Peebles well sits on a 50 acre tract owned by Mrs Thomas Underwood of Rockdale and was spudded August 28. Amoco Production Co operates the well with Locklin Brothers as drilling contractors.

Houston Man Killed in Milano Area Traffic Crash
Milam County reports its first traffic fatality of the year. Robert John Martin of Houston died at the scene in a head on collision with a tractor truck driven by Harvey Van Scroggins of Hutto on Highway 36 two miles south of Milano at about 8 30 a m. Scroggins was uninjured and Martin's body was taken to Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
