Milam County TB Control Program Outlined

Milam County TB cases after a May mass survey drew attention of the Milam County Health Unit. Dr. John B. Bryson reported 81 suspect or probable cases, with 52 followed up. 6 active, 10 inactive, 16 non tuberculosis, 9 afflicted. A school health plan and improved services are planned. August sees various communicable diseases and ongoing water and sanitation work in schools.

Wolle Family Reunion Draws 125 Attendees in Austin

About 125 relatives gathered Sunday at Barton Springs Park in Austin for the George Wolle family reunion. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. George L. Schroeder Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Lange with guests Edmund Poller and Lawless Wolle Temple, Jimmie Brownstetter Channel View, Siegfried Wolle Sharp, and Linda Sarrell Baytown.

Lone Star Gas Moves Back To Old Office

Lone Star Gas Company employees will move back to their old quarters on West First Street the first part of next week. They moved to the Cheeves building on Main Street after their offices burned last month. The newly refinished offices will be in two colors with beige on the east wall and pale green elsewhere. An open house will be held as soon as furniture and equipment are placed. the exact date will be announced later.

Six Local Guard Members Attend College

Six members of Battery C 649th Anti air craft Artillery Battalion will attend universities and colleges across the state as the fall term begins. Cpl Otto G Zotz Jr and Pvt John C Green both Yee High School graduates departed earlier this week for college duties.

Legumes Ordered By A. S. C. Now

Over 80 percent of winter legume seed and fertilizer costs are covered by the Agriculture Conservation and Stabilization Service this year. Farmers should contact local A S C officials this week to place orders. supplies available after this week. Last year more than 1000 farmers planted winter legumes and the program benefits soil and future crop yields. Cotton ginning declines in Cameron area this season

Local gins in Cameron and Maysfield report a sharp drop in bales ginned this year totaling 3 768 versus 8 889 by the same date last year. Weems Gin shows 727 bales to date, down from 1 800 last year, while other gins report reduced outputs and ongoing receipts as government loans influence the market.

House Fire After Kerosene Stove Explosion

A rental house on Jefferson Street owned by John Henderson burned to the ground Monday at 3 PM after a kerosene stove exploded. The structure suffered about $1,200 in damage. tenants were a Negro family. No injuries were reported.

Pfc Daniel Hejl Joins 1st Marines At Inchon Korea

Pfc Daniel Hejl son of Mr and Mrs J C Hejl Buckholts has arrived at Inchon Harbor aboard the transport Marine Phoenix to join the 1st Marine Division in Korea. The division has fought since the outbreak of the conflict and earned Presidential Unit Citations for Inchon landing and the Chosin Reservoir actions.

Den Mother Workshop Begins in Temple September 30

Cub scout den mothers and prospective leaders may join a five week workshop in Temple starting September 30. Leroy Sanders Promoted to Corporal in 135th Combat Battalion

Private First Class Leroy Sanders of Cameron promoted to Corporal. He serves as supply clerk with Headquarters and Service Company, 135th Engineer Combat Battalion, a unit of the 44th Infantry Division at Fort Lewis Washington. The 44th has a long combat history in Europe and Pacific theaters and was demobilized after World War II before reactivation for the Korean War.

Markham-Williams Accident Causes Vehicle Damage

No injuries were reported after Booker T. Williams Jr. of Cavilla failed to yield while attempting to pass Mrs. Florence Markham of Cameron on the Little River Bridge. Both cars sustained extensive damage. Mrs. Markham was with Mrs. Mattie Houston of Cameron when investigated by Highway Patrol.

Cameron Yeomen beat University High 6 to 0 in Waco. Heitman scored the only touchdown on a 22 yard run with 92 seconds left in the third quarter, as Cameron dominated with 279 rushing yards and strong blocking. Roy Weems Displays Granddaddy Diamondback in Cameron

Roy Weems of Belmena presented a four and a half foot nine rattler in downtown Cameron on a Wednesday afternoon. He estimated the snake’s girth at about seven inches. Weems claimed the event ties to a local saying about sun and rain.

Postal Receipts Rise in First Eight Months of 1954

Postmaster John P. Hayes reports postal receipts reach 50000 for the first eight months of 1954, up about 19 percent from 1953. He notes the office still uses old street numbers until city re numbering is done and outlines planned route extensions to serve new and existing areas. The three letter carriers and one parcel post carrier cover about 25 miles within city limits.
