A gin house at Planters Gin in Maysfield burned Thursday around 3 30 p m. The origin is unknown. Cameron volunteers helped fight the blaze. Damage is estimated at 1500 dollars with no cotton or cotton seed lost. J C Freeman operates the gin and over 1100 bales have been ginned this season.

Election Judges Clerks Praised For Quick Primary Tabulation

City secretary Neemie Needham reports ten permits issued in Cameron for August totaling $53,150, up $19,742 from August 1953. Milam County Cotton Ginnings Reach 11 461 Bales By Monday
A Milam County report dated September 6 shows 11 461 bales ginned this season across county gins led by Buckholts and Cameron facilities. About 1200 migrant pickers worked Milam during harvest with total field cotton around 36 000 bales in 1953 and over 16 000 harvested by September 1. P W Davis of Cameron Compress notes over 9 000 bales received, about half of last year, with Buckholts lead at 1465 bales and Maysfield close behind at 1232.

Milam County Sees Fourth Traffic Death This Year
Daniel Cantu a Corpus Christi Mexican farm worker died after losing control of a 1948 Chevrolet on Farm Road 600 near Sandy Creek Bridge. The car flipped twice pinning him. he died at St Edwards Hospital. He had been sending money to family in Corpus Christi.

Matyastik Gin at Rogers Destroyed by Fire
The Matyastik Gins Rogers facility was completely destroyed by a fire early Wednesday around 4 a.m. Forty-three bales of cotton and a large amount of seed burned. a few bales were saved. Jim Matyastik, the gin manager, oversees the operation begun three years ago by W. T. Matyastik of Cameron. Damage estimates were not yet determined.

Judge's Appeal Moves Up After Rockdale Absentee Vote Ruling
District Judge O. D. Graham upheld Article 13.42 to count Rockdale absentee box 15 votes. Defense counsel posted a $5,000 supersedeas bond for an appeal to the Court of Civil Appeals in Austin. Twenty one witnesses testified. 219 were dismissed as their testimony would not affect canvassing results.

Annual Firemen's Convention Set for Cameron October 3
The 36th Annual Central Texas Volunteer Firemen's Association convention will be in Cameron on Sunday October 3 with about six hundred delegates and visitors from thirty three cities. Volunteers are coordinating a program, barbecue tickets are sold at local shops with a September 27 deadline, and donations are welcomed. The Cameron department is noted for hosting a successful convention.
