New Ada Henderson Pressbox Draws Crowd at Yoe Field

Visitors toured the new pressbox at Yoe Field during a Rosebud area game night with Ada Henderson seventh and eighth graders playing. The structure offers a sheltered camera deck and ample room for equipment, while observers joked about a rooftop view. North Milam Fund Group to Meet in Cameron Courthouse

The Budget and Admissions Committee of the North Milam County United Fund will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the Commissioners Courtroom at the Cameron Courthouse. It will hear written allocation requests and oral explanations from organization representatives. Committee members are Jack DuBois chairman Charlie Burke and Richard Williams.

Thomas Gunning Dies In El Paso

El Paso resident Thomas C. Gunning died September 3 at age with a Rim Road address. Survived by widow Velda Walker and son Thomas G. Gunning Jr. He led Gunning-Casteel Drug and Realty firms, chaired local banks, and held numerous civic roles including Rotary director and Salvation Army board member. Buried in El Paso.

Jimmie Love Joins Local Guard Unit

Jimmie E. Love was sworn in as Private First Class with Milam County's Company C, 3rd Medium Tank Battalion, National Guard during weekend drill. He recently completed a two year active duty tour, with 17 months in Hawaii in the 25th Infantry Division's Field Artillery. He resides in the Sharp area.

Marak Church Plans Public Picnic Sunday

The Marak SS Cyril and Methodius Church invites the public to a Sunday event starting at 2 p m with a 3 p m cotton auction and games and refreshments. A sausage and chicken supper runs 5 to 8 p m, followed by a dance by the Vrazel Polka Band Sunday evening.

Work To Begin On New Newton Memorial Hospital

Construction equipment moved in this week by Lemands Construction Co to clear ground for Newton Memorial Hospital north of the present site. The 28 bed, one floor facility is expected to take about a year to complete. Officials thanked donors totaling 69000 and urged ongoing contributions. Work also progressed on the Citizens National Bank and McIntosh's Dept. Store foundations while the old First Baptist Church building was dismantled for a new colonial style structure.

County Officials Attend Conference on Aging

Mrs Mildred Wheeler and F L Gregory attended the Governor s Conference on Aging as Milam County delegates on September 7 8 Wheeler joined the Health group Gregory joined Welfare others note the White House Conference on Aging in January will be a citizen s event with forums and meetings at community and state levels in Austin Texas will send eighty eight delegates to the White House Conference.

Milam Youth Excels at Waco District Show

Milam County youths dominate the Waco District show with Jane Mueck winning Blue ribbon and first place for her Duroc gift and Roy Dean Tomasek earning Red ribbon and second place on his Duroc boat. Jane received $22 and Roy $20.75. Milam Council tallies eight firsts two seconds and two fourths over six years.

Cameron School Board weighs grouping by ability and field house plans

The Cameron School Board discussed ability grouping in local public schools and possible upgrades to Yee High School physical education facilities. Plans included adding showers at $1428, relocating the YHS office for locker space, and a proposed field house near Yee Field with borrowing up to about $19,000.

Quarterbacks Review Film on Cameron Rosebud Game

Cameron Quarterback Club members reviewed a Cameron Rosebud football game film and heard Coach Harrison McLerran report on Rogers. President Forrest Sapp announced a membership drive for at least 150 members. McLerran praised Rogers as an experienced team with big players. Rogers is undefeated after two games. All 29 players traveled and played in the game.

W. H. Tumlinson Dies in Harlingen Services Saturday

Victor H. Tumlinson a Cameron rancher and businessman died Wednesday in Harlingen after an extended illness. Funeral services are planned for Saturday in Raymondville. He had ranching ties in Cameron and Milam Counties since 1948 and once owned the Riverside Ranch south of Cameron. He served as a school administrator and Raymondville superintendent before moving to Cameron. Survived by wife two sons a daughter a brother three sisters.
