Two Car Crash Injures 3 Year Old Nancy McLain

Nancy McLain three-year-old daughter of Mr and Mrs Gus McLain Jr was seriously injured and hospitalized after a two car collision at the North Jackson and 13th Avenue intersection Friday at about 8 50 am. The Cadillac driven by Mrs Rush Thomas struck the Pontiac driven by Mrs McLain on the left side. Nancy was thrown from the car and later taken to St Edward Hospital. Both women suffered shock and minor bruises with no word on damage costs. Sheriff Black investigated the crash.

Funeral Services For O. J. Brod Held At Methodist Church

Funeral services for O. J. Brod, 67, were held at 1 p.m. Monday August 30 1954 at the First Methodist Church in Cameron with Dr Mark Magers officiating. Interment followed in Bryan Cemetery. Survivors include son T Sgt Otto John Brod US Army, daughter Mrs Robert Buffington of Bryan, two brothers Ernest Brod Cameron Ed Brod San Benito, two sisters Mrs Lee Marek Hearne and Mrs Ray McAfee Rosebud, four grandchildren.

Emergency Feed Program Aid Starts September 3

Farmers may apply for emergency feed program assistance beginning Friday September 3. Roy Wright Milam and Burleson County FSA Supervisor said and will attend La Grange meeting to learn program administration. Application blanks will be available at FHA offices in Cameron and Caldwell.

Mrs Graham Recovers From Broken Arm At Home

Friends report Mrs C D Graham wife of Judge Graham has recovered from a broken arm. She was hospitalized briefly after the accident and is now up and about her duties at home feeling much better.

Thompson Resigns Caldwell Utilities Chief to Start Cameron Firm

Clifford Thompson, longtime Caldwell city utilities manager, resigns at a council meeting and plans to move with his family to Cameron. He will open a land surveying and engineering office on October 1, after state he leaves by September 30.

Milam County Named in Drought Area for Federal Aid

The Department of Agriculture added Milam Falls and McLennan counties to the drought area after a telegram from Congressman Bob Poage. Thirty three Texas counties are now eligible for federal aid plus two previously announced groups. Milam is among those named and FHA offices will issue application blanks within 48 hours. The program covers feed grains hay and supports maintenance of foundational herds for 60 days based on farmer needs.

Pruett Reminds Parents of New School Resolution

Milam County School Superintendent Hinton H. Pruett reminded parents that a recent school board resolution requires every child entering first grade this September to file a birth certificate with the first grade teacher. The child must be six years old on or before September 1 to enroll and be counted on the ADA.

Marlow Cemetery and Church Schedule Homecoming Day

The Marlow Cemetery Association sets Sunday September 5 for homecoming with a 1:30 p.m. program after grounds dinner. Marlow Baptist Church shares the date with its annual homecoming and revival ending that day. Rev. Joel Thielepape from San Marcos preaches starting August 29. Rev. R. B. Formation of Water District Along Little River Discussed

Thirty land owners met in Cameron to hear Hammond Moore and August Kaier discuss forming a water district for irrigation along the Leon and Little River watersheds. The plan would allow use of 45 thousand acres of water backed by Belton Dam. A nominating committee will select seven district representatives to gauge owner support and trigger a county election.

Pink Bollworm Control Talks At Waco Meeting

Milam County Farm Bureau president John A. Smith and local farmer J A Moore attended a nine county Waco gathering of farm experts to approve a three point plan to combat pink bollworm. The voluntary program targets October 31 stalk destruction, post April 1 planting, and chemical control as needed, with emphasis on early planting to reduce infestations. Speakers included Dr. J C Gaines and Eugene Butler who warned on spread and stressed nonmandatory measures.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs Anna Hanel 82

Mrs Anna Hanel 82 died at Dayton Memorial Hospital August 27 after a long illness. Born in Austria April 8 1872 she came to America in 1907 and lived in Milam county. She married Frank Hanel in 1891. he died in 1930. Survived by two sons Frank and John and three daughters Mary Krull Anna Newman.

Rosebud resident Mrs. W. H. Wright died at 7 a.m. Monday in her Rosebud home after a year of declining health. Milam Dems Certify August Primary Returns

Milam County Democratic Executive Committee met August 31 1954 at 10:00 a.m. to check and approve election returns. A six member committee reviewed results and the secretary was instructed to certify and mail the returns to the State Democratic Executive Committee and the County Clerk. A resolution commending Chairman Max McClaren for prompt fair handling was adopted unanimously.

O. J. Thomas School will open Monday morning September 6 at 9 o'clock under principal C. L. Sadberry. Registration follows the general assembly at 9 AM. A faculty meeting is set for September 4. Petition seeks review of Rockdale absentee ballots in Milam County

District Court set a 10 a.m. Saturday September 4 hearing after a petition filed August 31 to canvass and count 247 rejected absentee ballots from Rockdale Precinct 15. The action follows Don Humble's challenge of all absentee ballots and cites alleged rights violations for 232 Rockdale voters in the July and August runoffs. The canvass occurred without including the rejected ballots in certified returns.

Re-elected Shivers and Yarborough Carry Milam in Runoff

Milam County voters cast 5335 ballots in the August runoff with Yarborough ahead of Shivers by 490 in July. Yarborough won the gubernatorial race countywide while Shivers led in several boxes.
