About 1200 bales of the 1926 Cameron cotton crop have been marketed by Thursday night estimates. Buyers expect a county yield near 50 000 bales with prices around 18 to 19 cents. Cameron is praised as central Texas’ best market and urged farmers to bring cotton to Cameron for sale.
Giles L. Avriett longtime Cameron county auditor and groceryman begins duties with the First National Bank of Cameron on Tuesday September 1. A UT Austin graduate and former state land office official, he is praised for civic leadership and road development efforts in Milam County. He will temporarily hold the auditor position and plans to sell his grocery business as offers come in.
Mr and Mrs R G Grabein of Cameron completed a 2500 mile trip through west Texas New Mexico El Paso Juarez and old Mexico camping along the way They praised Milam County cotton and predicted higher prices noting worm damage and dead crop in parts of West Texas during the journey They traveled by Ford sedan and visited Fort Worth Cloudcroft and other towns. Mr Grabein is sales manager at Hubert Hefley Motor Company.
Jack Barnes extends heartfelt appreciation to supporters in his precinct after winning the run off for public weigher on August 28. He pledges to provide the best possible service in the office and thanks all who showed loyalty and interest.
E. D. Hill, former manager of Jackson Pharmacy No. 2, will resign to join Upjohn Manufacturing Company as a traveling salesman. He will base his operations in Cameron for a short period and plans to move to Waco early next year. Friends wish him success in his new career.

Two arrests in Cameron on Saturday and Sunday brought confessions to two robberies. Chas Allen and Oscar Allen, brothers, were linked to the Lee Book Store theft in Ben Arnold via recovered goods and a knife display. Sheriff Blaylock tied earlier Pavlek grocery store robbery to the duo. both are jailed awaiting trial.
Dan Moody won a strong majority in Cameron with 707 votes to 409 for Mrs. Ferguson. The local box tallies show a statewide trend, as Ferguson lost 61 votes from the last primary while Moody built on 529 votes in the first primary and drew strength from Lynch Davidson. Campaigns remained active until polls closed at 7 p.m., and Moody’s margin in Cameron plus Rockdale helped offset county results where Ferguson led Attorney General by 260.
Parker and Moseley open a Duco painting plant in Cameron in the former Cameron Chevrolet building across from the courthouse. The operation will provide Duco finishes for autos, refinishing for furniture, and sales of Alex Radios, with Curtis Air-Mist cleaning service included.
Intermediate boys and girls enjoyed an evening outdoor party with games and refreshments on the Baptist church lawn. Chaperones Mia Dan Gunn and Miss Clara Thomas helped supervise the event.
Marcello Hernandez was shot and seriously wounded in a fight near Maysfield last Saturday. Cordova brothers are jailed awaiting trial after Hernandez, from Paint Rock, was attacked with beating and stamping. He is at Camer on Hospital with injuries to left side and head and is expected to recover.
The show windows of Triggs Dry Goods Company attract much comment and their window dresser Mr Ralph Head receives many compliments. Two windows feature ladies coats and other women’s wear while a striking display highlights men’s shirts. The windows are praised as a splendid advertising medium and display the arts of Mr Head.
Miss Maggie Lou Aycock, assistant to the Methodist pastor in Corpus Christi, returned to her duties Monday after visiting home. She traveled by car and was accompanied by Billy Clark.
Alvin Dusek, longtime prescription druggist at Jackson Pharmacy No 2, is named manager after B D Hill resigns to join Upjohn Manufacturing Company. Dusek, Cameron native and Cameron High School graduate, has served as assistant to management and a prescription pharmacist since 1924. His promotion pleases local friends who know him well in Cameron.
County health officer Dr. M C C Sapp warns hunters and the public to avoid eating doves killed in cotton fields treated for the leaf worm. He notes large poison use in fields and doves feeding on poisoned worms, urging extreme caution as the September 1 opening nears. The season already draws many hunters despite the risk to meat.
J D Lewis and his orchestra will provide the music for a dance at Wayside Inn. The added member makes one of the best orchestras in the region and crowds continue to attend the weekly event.
Enterprise J R Hays, former Herald advertising manager, accepts the Cameron Enterprise post starting this week. He previously worked at the Galveston News, Texas City, and Abilene before leaving Cameron. Mrs Hays and their children have arrived to resettle, and friends welcome them back to the city.
Governor Miriam A Ferguson again carried Milam County over Dan Moody in the run off. In the July primary Ferguson led Moody by about 1000 votes. in the August run off her margin was 260. Cameron box totals show Moody 8002 Ferguson 8262 for governor. Other races, box tallies, and county trends noted with Pollard and Hatcher figures.
R A Houston of Austin and brother Grady Houston plan to open a tire store on the court house square building. The venture will offer wholesale and retail tires with service and sales. An opening date with full details will be announced soon.
