Ten German War Criminals Hanged at Landsberg Prison
Ten German war criminals were hanged Friday at Landsberg Prison despite appeals from churches. Among the ten were Alex Piorkowski a former Dachau commander aged 44 and SS Colonel Hans Trummler aged 48 noted for distributing cigars to troops after killing American parachutists. The executions occurred in the prison courtyard under a gray sky where Hitler wrote Mein Kampf.
