Dr. Leroy M. Cochran of McCloskey Veteran's Hospital spoke to the Cameron Lions on Texas history. He traced settlements to 1520 1521 and noted Texas rose as a republic in 1836 under Sam Houston. He described six flags over Texas and a population today exceeding 9.5 million.

Tom Phipps Dies at VA Hospital in Temple

Tom Phipps of Maysfield died October 23 at the VA Center in Temple at age 63. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Maysfield Methodist Church with Rev. John Edgar. burial followed in Little River Cemetery. Born November 4, 1896, he worked for Maysfield Merchantile before retirement and was a World War I Navy veteran. Survivor: brother Coke Phipps. Pallbearers: Vaughn Thweatt, Donald Thweatt, Gifford Thweatt, Roy Weems, Tommy Gleason, Walter White. Arrangements by Marek Burns.

Cameron Men Fly To Spain For H-3-W Chick Franchise

Two Cameron businessmen Le ster Byrd and Alton Fuchs return from a five day Spain visit after signing an Ideal H-3-W chicks franchise in Spain and Portugal. They traveled from Idlewild to Lisbon then Madrid and attended New England Poultry Producers Council events in Syracuse. Pombo will receive 11 000 chicks in 1961. Albert Schlemmer a longtime Cameron resident died October 21 in the VA Center Temple. Services were held Saturday at Marek Burns Funeral Home with Rev Loyd Burleson officiating. Burial was in Walkers Creek Cemetery. He was born April 2 1893 in Gay Hill Texas and was a retired farmer. North Milam United Fund reaches 30 percent

Drive Chairman Richard Moseley reports the 1960 North Milam United Fund about 30 percent complete before official tallies. Seven agencies participate to raise 11500 with drives to decide 1961 fund-raising plans. Hoskins Adds Two Officers To Cameron Police Force

Cameron Police Chief Elvin Hoskins expands the force with a former patrolman as relief officer and a Rockdale man as night radio dispatcher. George Dewey McCall 56 of Cameron adds about 16 months on the force and 12 years police experience. Edwin John Brockenbush 23 of Rockdale begins duties after moving to Cameron over the weekend.
