Prowlers Break Front Windows In Cameron Stores

unidentified prowlers broke into The Safeway store last Friday night and Irving's Dept Store Sunday night in Cameron. seven cartons of cigarets and about six wrist watches were stolen, with fingerprint samples taken at the scene. police report additional prowler sightings in two residential areas but no suspects yet.

Farm Potential Big Says Gaston Cites Milam County Prospects

William H. Gaston Milam County FHA supervisor told Cameron Lions Club that Milam County has strong potential for higher agriculture income. He cited an East Texas county that increased farm income by 1.2 million dollars and warned that income decline harms the local economy. He urged dairying, livestock growth, and soil rebuilding with fertilizer to boost yields noting two bales per acre locally versus three quarters on a neighbor farm using newer methods.

Bus Overturns Near Milano Harming 24 Pupils

A Burton school bus carrying 24 Negro students overturned on US 79 SH 36 west of Milano around 11 p.m. Monday. Eight pupils were taken to St Edward's Hospital with three as minor injuries. all were later released after examination. Driver Campbell Francis 55 of Burton pulled off the road and lost control while turning. Two Burton buses were returning from the Texas State Fair when the accident occurred.

North Milam Fund Starts Drive Here

North Milam United Fund kicks off an 11 500 goal with about 30 workers at a coffee meeting. NM Fund President Hinton Pruitt and Campaign Chairman Richard Moseley urge a strong drive. Agencies include Boy Scouts Girl Scouts Red Cross Salvation Army Texas United Fund Area Charities and Cameron Library. The drive runs through October 30.

City Adopts Stop Signs and Speeding Curb Plan in Cameron

Cameron City Council approved 24 new stop signs and asked City Atty. Charlie Smith to contact Santa Fe Railroad about train speeds and crossing weed clearance. Officials also authorized Western hats for police, faster processing of fines, a 10 year lease extension for the Cameron Saddle Club arena, purchased a $571.50 Victor calculator, and noted improved drainage in northeast Cameron with planned further work. The docket and back fines were to be cleaned up by Chief Hoskins.

Eastland Highlights Rotary International Role Worldwide

Donald Eastland of Hillsboro, district 87 Rotary governor, told Cameron Rotarians that Rotary Clubs in 116 countries promote understanding, good will, and peace. He noted more than 10,600 clubs conduct local service and that Rotary has awarded over $3.3 million in student fellowships since 1947, with 1,322 fellows in 68 countries studying abroad averaging $2,500.
