Subsidy Checks Arrive At Local Office For 1037 Ecot Program

Subsidy checks for the 1037 ecot ton program arrive at the local office this week raising totals to about 160 checks worth roughly $15,000. About 2,000 applications have been submitted to College Station and then sent to Dallas for processing, with 3,400 to receive checks and an average just over $100 per check. The government aims to have all subsidy checks paid by December 1 and the office plans a 158 program completion soon.

More than two hundred women attended the first session and about the same number the second day. A complete prize list will be published next week. The show will return to Cameron next year by a vote of those present who praised the educational feature.

Fire destroys barn on G C Lucas farm near Minerva

A mysterious blaze at 4 am Sunday destroyed a barge barn and all contents on G C Lucas’s Minerva area farm. Neighbors Roy and Mrs Richards raised the alarm as the barn collapsed. three hundred bales of hay and lumber valued around $200 were lost along with a large cyprus storage tank. Lucas estimates total damage near $1200.

Geraldine Fogle was elected Sweetheart of the Cameron Band in a Saturday night special poll. She led a spirited contest with many entries. Dorothy Richter placed second, 13 000 votes behind, while Harriet Atkinson Wanda Lou Allen and Elaine Young rounded out the top five.
