Buckholts Pvt Krupicka Joins Camp Barkley Service

Quartermaster Corps Pvt First Class Raymond Krupicka of Buckholts is now stationed at Camp Barkley Abilene attached to the Quartermaster service. He enlisted October 15 1940 spent a year at Fort Sam Houston and is 23 years old. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Vince Krupicka of Buckholts. He attended Buckholts school born and raised in Corinth community. Krupicka is among Milam county youths who volunteered and reenlisted when war conditions required.

May Robson Dies in Hollywood After Long Career

May Robson, noted screen figure and idol of millions, died in Hollywood Tuesday morning. The veteran actress remained active in top pictures and most recently starred in A Lady for a Day.

Milam County Orders Relief Rolls Pruned of Ineligibles

Milam County Commissioners Court ordered a prune of relief rolls to remove ineligibles after a protest by about 20 farmers and business leaders. The move follows a Chamber of Commerce resolution urging the end of relief contributions except the county farm, while stressing the Food Stamp Deal should continue. The court asks the relief office to investigate and exclude those able to work, noting Milam spends little on the Food Stamp program. Bell County retained its Food Stamp Deal despite opposition from County Judge Messer over cost.

Gasoline Board Named for Milam County

Roy Baskin a Cameron lawyer was named Chairman of the Gasoline Rationing Board for Milam County. The announcement was made by Emory B. Camp, Milam County Defense Council chairman. Plachy Family Announces New Grandchild Carol Joyce

Mr and Mrs Frank Plachy announce the arrival of their first grandchild a baby girl named Carol Joyce born to Tech Sgt and Mrs A G Moran on October 15 1942 at Newton Memorial Hospital Mother and baby reported doing nicely.

Scrap drive reports pending in county with Cameron leading

The county scrap collection report is incomplete though Cameron tops with about 150000 pounds. County Superintendent Chas M Hicks expects more figures once Camp Hood trucks finish hauling in scrap. Some counties report promptly while others have not yet filed.

A Texas school official defends a War Production Board scrap drive, stating funds from scrap sales go to schools to buy war bonds rather than to individual students. He cites a sixteen page bulletin and notes Cameron Schools collected about 155000 pounds of scrap for the war effort.

Farmers Save and Now Get Checks From Dallas

Dallas official C. W. Hinyard announces Milam County deductions for 1942 Agricultural Conservation payments at 2.5 percent, less than 5.7 percent in 1941. Savings stem from non deductible funds and streamlined clerical work. Cooperators will receive conservation checks directly from the disbursement office in Dallas, cutting local handling costs.

English Terrier Found

Mrs. Rey Baskin notified the Daily Herald that a fine English Terrier, often called a Rat Terrier, was found at her home. The dog has a harness and vaccination tags, suggesting recent care. No owner has been located yet, and someone may be missing their pet.

Buckholts Names C D Campbell as New School Superintendent

C D Campbell accepted Buckholts School District’s top post and will succeed Hugo Horstmann who moves to Weatherford. Campbell comes from Burton where he led schools for 14 years and has impressed in Buckholts and other visits. The Buckholts board calls the appointment fortuitous for the county’s prominent district.

John J Williams Dies at Sandy Creek Milam County Pioneer

J H Williams 90 longtime Milam county resident died at his home near Sandy Creek Friday. Funeral services were held Saturday from the residence with Rev P T Ramsey Methodist church Rockdale officiating. He observed his 90th birthday on Sept 27 1942.

Local T P and L Manager Restores Hospital Power

J Albert Young of Texas Power and Light was praised for quick action during an emergency at Newton Memorial Hospital. As surgery faced an outage, he climbed a pole to locate and fix the fault, restoring lights within minutes. Dr Newton credited the rapid response and noted the hospital's continued operations.

Farmers Urged To Register Trucks In Milam County

Eddie D. Lumpkins, chairman of the Farm Transportation Committee, Milam County, urges farm operators to obtain help in filing certificates at the AAA office in Cameron or City Hall in Rockdale on October 22 23 and 24. Operators must have an approved certificate to be eligible for tires gasoline and repair parts by November 1 1942.

Local Air Officer Travels Through Cameron Over Weekend

Lieut Thomas Jefferson White of McDill Field Tampa visited relatives in Cameron over the weekend. He departed McDill Saturday morning and landed at Barksdale Field Louisiana where an officer left the plane for his wife in hospital. He then flew to Jackson Mississippi to pick up another officer and proceeded to Waco with Lieut Clawson and W T Caldwell of Cameron. The aircraft lifted from Waco at 4 50 p m Sunday for the return flight.

Tarpa flyer Caldwell visits home between Air Base duties

W T Caldwell of Tarpa Florida was home over the weekend to visit with his parents. He is stationed at MecDill Field and is a flyer. He got his wings at Ellington Field and hopes soon to get his commission. He flew to Waco with Lieut Thomas Jefffer son White in a B 26 bomber returning Sunday.

Local Soldier Hugh Compton in Army at Fort Bragg

Hugh Compton of Cameron serves in the 79th Field Artillery at Fort Bragg North Carolina. He enlisted in June 1940 and will be 21 on November 1 1942. His brother Hubert is a corporal in the Medical Corps at Camp Grant Illinois.

Mrs. Jake Richards Dies in San Angelo

Mrs. Jake Richards, 46, died at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning October 20 1942 in a San Angelo hospital after months of declining health. The body was received in Cameron. Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock at the Cameron residence with Interment in North Ulm Cemetery. Rev. Lamar Hoch er of the First Christian Church will officiate. Indian fighter Sam G. Locklin dies at 88 in Milam County

Sam G. Locklin, longtime Milam County pioneer and San Gabriel native, died at his home near San Gabriel on Wednesday October 21, 1942. Funeral services were held at his residence with a Methodist pastor from Rockdale officiating, and he was buried in the Locklin cemetery overlooking the Gabriel valley.

Thorndale Farmer Emil Richter Dies by Suicide

Emil Richter a Det mold area farmer near Thorndale was found dead at noon Tuesday in a barn on his farm. A verdict of death by own action was rendered. He hanged himself with a rope after a period of ill health. Funeral services were set for Thursday in Thorndale.

Colonel Kinzie B. Edmunds announced a rising need for WAAC auxiliaries to replace soldiers in combat duty. He listed roles including aircraft warning service, stenographers, drivers, cooks, clerks, and radio mechanics and urged Milam County women to enroll, noting none had yet done so. Applications are welcomed at Temple recruiting station or San Antonio district HQ.
