Cameron ISD approves audit and weighs single insurer plan

Cameron Independent School District board approved a Temple firm Yarborough Vance and Associates audit, with extra copies for review. The board also discussed consolidating insurance with one company, after a survey urged by the Insurance Company of North America. local agents proposed a room discussion to reach a plan.

Yoe High to Stage Biggest Homecoming Parade and Rally

Yoe High plans an 11 a.m. homecoming parade and pep rally to honor ex-students for the Cameron Caldwell game. Senior Rita Moran leads a class queen float with juniors Carol Ann Heitman Patsy Anderle and Patricia Janek as nominees. The parade route goes from the Post Office to courthouse area then to the pep rally in the Homemaking Department. Superintendent Wiley Loughmiller will crown the queen at halftime with escorts by football captains.

Reverend Patrick appointed pastor at Marlow church

Rev. Kenneth Patrick, a ministerial student in Waco, accepts the pastorate at Marlow Baptist Church in the Marlow community. He and his wife Wanda live in Waco. The Marlow church had been without a pastor for several Sundays.

Cameron Knights of Pythias will host District 7 Pythians Monday at 7 30 p.m. The event includes a chicken supper before the business session with many dignitaries expected to attend.

The Milam Coffee Shop opposite Cameron courthouse is now the Mayhew Milam Coffee Shop and Cafe under Mrs Ora Mayhew. The Mayhew family, long in Cameron, include Jerome Smith who joined to help run the cafe. Breakfasts and lunches stay cafeteria style with five cent coffee. evenings shift to cafe service with Mexican dishes.

Free Rat Control Offered By Chamber Of Commerce

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a five day rat control project starting October 22. A San Antonio Fish and Wildlife Service man will visit business houses to deploy poison, free of charge. BD. S. Wimberly, Sanitarium of the Local Health Unit will supervise. call Milam Health unit with name and address for infestation.

Councilmen Discuss Garbage Truck Bid and Tax Review

The Cameron city council held a regular meeting on Tuesday night October 16 to study bids for a packer type garbage truck under a lease option plan. Dulaney Service Company explained the economy and efficiency of the truck reducing trips to the dump by about 80 percent. The council also voted to recall the City Board of Equalization to recheck tax renditions and delinquent taxes, and to study uncollected traffic fines with City Attorney Bill Black.

AWOL Sailor Taken Into Custody Here

Cecil Wayne Baker a 29 year old Conroe native with Cameron listed as his home was captured Tuesday night by City Patrolman Warren McCall. He was held for the U S Navy on an AWOL charge and turned over to military authorities at Fort Hood Wednesday morning. The Navy requisition said he was absent without leave from his post as a seaman with the Texas Group Atlantic Reserve Fleet Orange Texas.

Council decides bids for police car and road items

The council found parties at fault on several matters and approved buying two maintainer tires. They voted to move a street light back into the city after recently being placed 38 feet outside city limits. A new bid request was issued for an interceptor police car with no other specifications to widen local dealer competition.

Dr Thomas Leland Denson 55 Dies at Cameron Home

Dr. Thomas Leland Denson fifty five of Cameron dies at his home Saturday afternoon. He suffered a fatal coronary while watching a football game and reportedly spoke to his housemaid before passing. A Baylor graduate and physician, he chaired Milam County Medical Society, served on multiple medical committees, and helped found the Denson Clinic. Survivors include his widow, a daughter, a son, a brother, and two sisters. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery followed services at Green Funeral Home with large attendance.

Private gauges varied, reporting higher totals in some areas and lower in others. readings ranged from 1.31 inches officially Tuesday afternoon to over 2 inches per Wayne Mann’s gauge, while 85 degrees and other local notes appear in citizen reports.

September Cameron police report shows fines and warrants

The Cameron police report for September records 41 traffic violations totaling 459 dollars and 69.5 dollars for drunkenness and disturbance, a 519.5 dollar fine total, 278 gallons of gasoline used, ten quarts of oil, four nonpayers with warrants withheld, and 81 dollars owed by those four offenders.

Funeral Services Today For Mrs. Palm

Funeral services for Mrs Bertha Tuttle Palm are set for 10 a.m. Thursday in the Marek Burns Chapel Cameron with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died in a San Antonio hospital on Monday October 15 and lived in Milam County most of her life. Survived by daughter Captain Jamie F Palm of San Antonio, brother Dr Tom H Tuttle of Bowling Green Ohio, and sister Mrs Lillian Tuttle West of Waco.

Mrs Mamie Stewart Rites Held for Cameron Native

Mrs Mamie Stewart sister of H B Pressley of Cameron died in Dallas Tuesday. Funeral services were set for 2 p.m. Thursday at Marlow Baptist Church with Rev John Solomon officiating. Burial followed in Marlow Community Cemetery. Green's Funeral Home handled local arrangements.
