Our Town editor reflects on civic projects in Cameron including Yee Hich school improvements and sidewalk plans. The Commercial Club meets Friday as town growth and health concerns prompt action after mosquito control and auto accident worries. Plans for paving, disposal, offices, and a downtown auditorium emerge with Yarrellton school visits and Friday night entertainment planned.
Cameron adopts an ordinance requiring all dogs to be vaccinated annually against rabies. Dr. G. E. Sutton named sanitary officer to enforce the law with a $2.50 fee and a tag for collars. Unvaccinated dogs will be shot. enforcement includes markets and restaurants.
Cameron city officials reach a cooperative plan to upgrade Yoe High School grounds. The city will build streets and sidewalks while A N Green executor funds entrances and hires a landscape artist to plan the grounds. A front lot will become a two way street with a center park, with work starting immediately.
An aged county resident, H. G. Sanders, whose home was near Pettibone, was buried Monday afternoon at Oakhill Cemetery. A member of the Masonic Lodge since early manhood, he was laid to rest with Masonic rites performed by the San Andres lodge of Cameron.
Winter weather arrives as Superintendent T A Fisher leads a project to beautify the campus. The effort to raise funds and improve grounds is described as a leading part of the school’s work.
The Texas Annual Conference of the Methodist church will convene in Cameron starting November 21 with opening sermon on November 20. About 350 to 425 delegates arrive by Nov 20 21 and remain until noon Monday next week. Sessions include morning meetings, afternoon committee work, and multiple sermons by Dr Paul B Kern and Bishop Moore.
Miss Annie McLane, who has spent the summer in Eureka Springs Arkansas, is expected to return home by the end of the month.
A Santa Fe passenger porter fell from a moving train at Milano and lay unconscious on the tracks. An International and Great Northern train stopped within eight feet of him, saving his life. He was taken to Cameron Hospital for treatment.
Highways are improving and motorists are coming through. Routes to San Antonio via Rogers, Pflugerville segment rough but passable. Houston to Hearne rough in places yet passable. Waco via Tempie fair to good, via Rosebud possible this afternoon. Caldwell via Milano open. Milano to Buriecson county rough. New highway through Millam county dangerous. slow for passing. Thorndale via Liac rough Alligator bottom. Minnie Nell and Gladys Blaylock, daughters of Mr and Mrs L L Blaylock, left Sunday for Sandy Ridge for the school charity this year.
Thirty blocks totaling about 59 000 square yards of Uvalde Rock Asphalt will be paved by the city with two inch thickness on at least eight inch bases. Sealed proposals due November 6 at next council meeting. County Engineer A F Mitchell to prepare specs and supervise. City to issue warrants and collect from property owners over five years. Residential areas to receive cement curbing and uniform drainage plans.
E. V. Ferguson of the Peter Company in Cameron announces turkey prices at 18 cents per pound for the 1923 crop in the Cameron territory. The State Poultry Convention in Dallas forecast prices 18 to 26 cents, about one third lower than last year, due to seven and a half million pounds in storage. Ferguson notes government movement requirements by year end and cites attendance at the Dallas meeting.
