Aged Man Found Dead Near Tracy

G B Hester aged 68 was found dead Saturday afternoon October 7 in a pasture near his daughter Mrs Marvin Charles home in Tracy where he had lived since his wife died. He had planned to shoot a dog and died apparently of a heart attack. Born November 25, 1865 in Alabama he moved to Texas in 1894 settling at Tracy. Funeral at Tracy Methodist Church with Rev H B Daly and burial in Lebanon cemetery.

NRA Compliance Board Is Named For Cameron

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce names a NRA Compliance Board and forms a Compliance Committee to oversee relief funds for Milam County. Members include B. P. Matoche, P. W. Davis, Albert Matula, Mion Cul pepper, C. W. Bradbury, and Mrs. W. E. Gaither.

Saint Monica’s Golden Jubilee Celebrated in Cameron

Saint Monica’s Catholic church marked its 50th anniversary in Cameron with a Pontifical High Mass led by Bishop Christopher E. Burne and Father George Apel. A large parade featuring old-time vehicles, 1860 costumes, and modern cars followed, drawing over 4,000 visitors from across the state. The event included a noon dinner and speeches by Bishop Byrne and Hon. O. H. The celebration was one of Cameron’s largest since World War I.

Fiddlers Contest I Held At Sharpe

A Friday evening fiddlers contest at Sharpe school auditorium featured eight entrants from Milam Bell and Williamson counties. Winners were Jim Simmons Thorndale first prize a sack of flour Charlie Modisett Bartlett second prize a year subscription to the Taylor Daily Press Will Beard Cameron third prize three year subscription to the Cameron Herald Fourth prize S P Samples Cameron a can of coffee. Other participants included George Riddie D C Gilleland Cavilla Black Lankford Thorniale and A B Moore with three of his young sons on mandolin guitar and banjo already heard on radio. The Moore boys were 14 11 and 8 years old.

Rangers arrest men in death of Thorndale teen

Texas Rangers arrested E A Miertschin a Thorndale constable and W D Burkhart in connection with the death of Henry James a 17 year old Thorndale high school senior and brother of state representative Jesse James James died Sept 13 after injuries that investigators say followed a fight at a local entertainment and a road incident stemming from a scuffle two companions reported before the case proceeds to the Milam County Justice Court where Miertschin faces an accessory charge and Burkhart a murder charge with bond set at 3000

Kiddie Matinee Closes Francis Shows Program Here

The Legion announces a Kiddie Matinee Saturday from 2 to 5 p m with reduced rates for all shows and rides. Blake and Karbe promise thrills for young spectators while Mr Farley of the Georgia Minstrels hosts an Old Time Southern Ramble at 10 p m. Dr. R. C. Reynolds, noted specialist on incurable diseases, has moved from San Antonio to Cameron. He rents two apartments at 206 College Street in the Mrs. Gaston home for residence and medical practice and plans permanent relocation with future announcements. Three Men Escape With 3000 From Buckholts Bank

Three men robbed Buckholts State Bank at 9 30 AM taking 3000. They entered calmly with one staying in a Plymouth outside and fled along Temple road. No arrests or clues yet. suspects believed to have stolen a Fort Worth car. Ed Kolba and Leo Fuchs witnessed the heist.

Cotton plowup payments reach Milam farmers total over $308000

George Banzhaf county agent reported that 1628 checks totaling $308,801 had been received by Wednesday night. The Milam county cotton program totals about $512,000, leaving more than $200,000 still to be distributed to farmers.

Three death sentences were affirmed by the court of criminal appeals in Austin. Ira Kelly Haring county Paul Mitchell Lubbock county and Clarence Booker Travian county were sentenced to be electrocuted for criminal assault robbery with firearms and murder respectively. Mitchell robbed Bob Tharp of 20 dollars after threatening him Smith’s money was taken from a store jar.

Knights of Pythias Set Grand Chancellor Visit

Knights of Pythias will entertain Grand Chancellor L L Hodge of Texas and Theo Yarborough of Weatherford with Weylon C Frasier of Waco among dignitaries. Waco members and Rockdale lodge are invited. Refreshments and a musical program are planned for Monday night October 17.
