Milam Red Cross Fund Receives Donations For Carla Victims

Two checks totaling 35 dollars were added to the Milam County Red Cross hurricane disaster fund bringing the total to 285 toward a 1288 quota for the area. Cameron Coca Cola Bottling Co. donated 25 dollars via the Cameron Rotary Club and E. H. Ross of Cameron gave 10 dollars. The first long term recovery awards are under review by Red Cross advisory committees led by H. D. Maxwell. Texas counties and Louisiana parishes have committees to assess needs and approve aid.

U T Staffer to Speak at Cameron Quarterback Club Barbecue

H C Gilstrap of the University of Texas athletic department will address Cameron Quarterback Club and Yee High School gridders at a 7 30 p m barbecue in Methodist Fellowship Hall. The program includes a Taylor Cameron film and YHS coaching staff reports with 126 club and players attending.

Lions Club broom sale raises funds for charity

The Cameron Lions Club collected $1,019 in their annual broom sale. Proceeds go to Lions civic and charitable work. Club president Bill Crockett noted last year’s sale brought in $656.40.

Fats Domino Visits Cameron Service Station

Fats Domino with three musicians stopped at Schiller's Humble Service Station at 301 West 4th St for a gas fillup around 6:45 p.m. on Monday. Ernest Bayer, a Yee High School senior, served the car and Domino used a credit card under the name Antwone. Domino did not exit the car, and one companion was possibly B B King. Domino is slated for a Huntsville State Prison Rodeo appearance this month.

Polzer in Houston Hospital After Home Explosion

Cameron native Mrs. Lawrence Polzer is in serious condition in a Houston hospital from burns suffered at her home on September 26. Police suspect gas buildup caused the blast. She saved her two month old child who was uninjured. She is the former Pat ONeill, daughter of Ray and Mrs. ONeill of Cameron. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Polzer of Cameron.

Three Hurt as One Car Wreck Shatters 1956 Ford

Milam Teachers to Hear E L Galyean Guest Speaker

Milam County Unit of the Texas State Teachers Association will host E L Galyean of Austin as the guest speaker at the first meeting. The event is set for Monday at 7 30 p m in the Milano High School Auditorium. Galyean brings extensive public school experience and has held roles including deputy state superintendent and director of school census and statistics. Since 1950 he has directed research and records association.
