H. C. Bully Gilstrap of the University of Texas athletic staff spoke to about 200 Quarterback Club members and VHS players at the Cameron barbecue held in the Methodist Fellowship Hall. His half hour talk mixed recruiting anecdotes and life lessons from football as a study in resilience. Milam Test Well Drilling Ahead To 1400 Feet
Milam County's new shallow test Milam Test Well No. 9 drilled ahead early this week after delays from breakdowns. It was below 400 feet and planned to reach about 1400 feet northwest of Milano in the Griffin Chapel area. The Alps Oil Company No. 1 Ray Woods test near Milano is not yet started, permitted to 4000 feet on a 101 acre lease in the James Welch Survey.

Drive Kaput No.61 NM Fund Plans No Fall Drive
The North Milam United Fund will not conduct a drive this fall due to lack of a volunteer to lead. Seven agencies were to run their own drives in Cameron. A complete reorganization program is planned for winter to prepare a new drive next year. Last year’s goal was 11 500 with 5 998 53 collected by October 1 and pledges continuing through 1961. Agencies include Red Cross, Salvation Army, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Area Charities, Cameron Library, Texas United Fund.

Newton Hospital Nears Completion
The new Newton Memorial Hospital, under construction for almost a year, nears completion with interior finish work ongoing. The one story brick cross shaped building will be air conditioned and houses wards, private rooms, operating rooms, and staff quarters. The project cost about 295000 dollars with total plant value expected well over 400000 dollars once fully equipped. Martin B Semands Inc of Conroe is the contractor.
