A Sant Fe freight car brake journal failure derailed 33 cars three miles north of Crawford scattering Russia bound wheat. It is the fifth such derailment in the area since July with the first incident occurring north of Mody involving the same shipment.
The Little River Baptist Church near Cameron Texas, established in 1849, has called Rev Eddie Fugate as pastor. Fugate, a Baylor University student from Corbin Kentucky, previously served as interim pastor at Calvary Baptist Church and participated in more than 125 evangelistic campaigns including Billy Graham Crusades in Knoxville and Lexington.
Two juveniles and their parents may pay for about 50 highway signs removed from Milam area and dumped in the San Gabriel River. Signs costing 700 to 1000 dollars will be replaced, with no charges yet filed. A separate $50 reward is offered for information about a hoax call to Cameron Police.
Milam County mails over 10 000 tax notices up about 500 from last year according to Walter White. Early payment discounts apply three percent in October two percent in November and one percent in December. Cameron Independent School tax office mails about 6 500 notices and at 100 percent collection could yield 350 268. city notices totals were not available.
A 22 year old man from the Gause area fell from a bridge into Little River near Sugarloaf Mountain and drowned Wednesday afternoon. James Gary Wyatt was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Leonard Allen. His body was recovered about 9:15 p.m. by the Hearne rescue squad after search efforts.
