Annual Parade Opens Christmas Season in Cameron

Cameron prepares for the annual Christmas Parade set for 3 p.m. Saturday December 2 with Santa atop a sleigh, bands, floats, carolers, and festive lights. Parade route runs from Bette Street to Crockett to Gillis to Houston to Fannin to East Ist to Main, with prizes of 25 12 50 and 7 50 for top floats.

Mutscher Addresses Cameron Rotary on Texas Government

Brenham legislator Gus Mutscher spoke to 59 Rotarians in Cameron outlining a threefold triangle of government and four top state issues. He noted broad support for House Speakership among about 139 of 150 lawmakers and recalled Cameron Rotary events with Barnes Belo and Schiller.

Milam Team Places Second at National Poultry Contest

Milam County youths finished second at the National Poultry Judging Contest held at the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus. Virginia won by 20 points. Larry Jungmann and teammates from Buckholts and Cameron earned 360 of 3900 points and multiple division trophies. The delegation was led by County Agent J. D. Moore and Bill Cowley with contest sponsorship by the American Poultry and Hatchery Federation.

Volunteers Work At Katacomb Club Center Opening

Teen center volunteers labored during Thanksgiving painting the Katacomb Club building on West St and the center aims to open at Christmas. Health unit course for food service workers in Cameron

The Texas State Department of Health will hold a three day public health course for cafeteria, restaurant, school and hospital food handlers in Cameron December 5 to 7 from 2 30 to 4 30 p m at Ada Henderson School cafeteria. Doc Nelson and Roddy Holcombe will lead the sessions on bacteriology contamination spoilage cleaning and sanitizing with no charge and certificates for full attendance.

Horstmann resigns Cameron school board and civic posts

Horstmann, a Cameron businessman and geological consultant, resigns as president of the Cameron Lions Club and will leave the Cameron School Board. He accepted a position with Lone Star Gas Co. in Abilene and plans to start Monday with his family moving mid semester. The Horstmann Tire Store will operate under Alfred Price.

Milam County Farmers Vote On 1968 Upland Cotton Quotas

Milam County ASCS mails notices on the 1968 upland cotton marketing quota referendum. Balloting by mail runs December 4 to 8, with eligible voters including 1967 cotton producers and allotment farm owners. Milam’s 1965 allotment was 49,936 acres, 1967 at 49,974. yield per acre up, loan price higher, payments down slightly.
