Preparations for the Christmas season begin with new decorations and planning for the Cameron Christmas parade set for Saturday December 2. Downtown Cameron will glow with holiday displays and festive activities as residents prepare to welcome the season.

Lone Star Gas plans an 18 mile 6 inch transmission line and 60 000 feet of mains to serve over 500 Somerville residents. The Cameron District project begins around December with completion expected in early April. Somerville joins Cameron Buckholts Rogers Rosebud Caldwell Lyons and Rockdale in the district which now serves more than 6 900 customers.
George Washington issues a proclamation urging a national day of thanksgiving on November 26 1789 to thank God for providence, peace, liberty, and the new constitutional government and to seek guidance and unity for the United States. He calls for prayer gratitude and moral conduct across public and private life in the new nation.
Cameron City Council calls a special election for December 19 to decide a 1 percent city sales tax. A 40 000 budget is proposed for use of tax proceeds including fire, streets, equipment, library, police, airport, parks, cemetery and salaries with a 15 member Citizens Committee led by E A Perrin.
Indictments returned against seven men in the September term of the Milam County Grand Jury. Charges include fraudulent checks for felony theft, two burglaries, and an assault with intent to murder. Defendants named include Bobby Loftin Cameron Charles Robinson Cameron John Lopez Bryan Danny Wood Odessa Bill Huddleston Hereford and Robert Lawdon Thorndale. Grand jury foreman was Charles Hensley.
The Cameron United Fund raised 8523 dollars for Red Cross Salvation Army Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Led by campaign chairman Albert McCullin Jr the drive exceeded the 7500 goal representing 113.6 percent and ran from mid October into November for payroll drives.
Milam County Sheriff says two Houston men Joe Nathan Wilson and L C Ross were arrested in Columbus in a Friday Thorndale store robbery at Steve's Cash Store. They allegedly forced entry and stole 800 to 900 dollars worth of cigarettes and cigars before trying to mislead by staging car trouble.
Rogers Eagles and Rosebud Panthers meet in a 1-A Regional Championship at Cameron's Yoe FieldFriday night tickets on sale at Rogers and Rosebud High Schools for adults 1.50 students 0.50. Gate tickets rise to 2.00 for adults and 1.00 for students. Cameron Chamber will present a trophy to the winner. Rosebud defeated Cameron Yeomen 29 earlier. Rogers and Rosebud bring seasoned squads led by coaches Donald Godwin and Rodney Hudson.
Yee High School installs members into the Yee High Chapter of National Honor Society. Officers named include president Aleta Zawadzke and treasurer Al Hefft. Sophomores receive probationary status while seniors and juniors listed include Deandra Mullinax and Rosalee Stanislaw among others.
Texas Longhorns defensive end Mike Perrin sustained a pulled ligament in his knee during the Texas TCU game in Austin. Though not serious, he will miss the Texas Texas A M clash at College Station on Thursday.
Miss Josephine Wohleb died at 3 10 p m in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at St Monica s Catholic Church with Rev John Geiser officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Rosary was recited at Marek Burns Funeral Home. Born May 30 1872 in Industry she leaves five nephews and four nieces. Pallbearers included Lester Williams H H Stedman Ted Kuehl Arthur Baskin Herman Hoelscher and Julian Baskin.
Fire destroyed two private garages Saturday afternoon in Cameron's Green Addition. Fire Chief Carl Black said the cause is undetermined and the blaze affected homes of Mrs. Leona White and Mrs. A. R. McLerran on North Harding. Laundry equipment in White's garage was unused at the time.
Five Cameron graduating seniors have entered the Alcoa Foundation competition for two scholarships for sons and daughters of Rockdale Works employees. Among 36 area entrants are Linda Fleming Dorothy Moe Holloway David Kelley Mike Miller and Aleta Zawadzke.

James C. Broadway of Bludworth Ship Yard Houston was accidentally shot in his car on Highway 36 near Belt's Salvage. His wife, the sole passenger, said a 25 caliber weapon dropped in the car and fired. Broadway was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital then Scott and White Hospital for emergency surgery. The incident occurred Friday evening.
