Grandson Of Cameron Resident Killed In Vietnam

Funeral services are pending at Laferia for the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mack Mapies who was killed in Vietnam last week. He is the grandson of Mrs. Mary Clark Mapies, longtime Cameron resident now in LaFeria. Maj. B. D. Maples, the elder brother, will accompany the body from California.

Lone Star Gas Expansion Brings Natual Gas to Somerville

Lone Star Gas plans an 18 mile 6 inch transmission line and 60 000 feet of mains to serve over 500 Somerville residents. The Cameron District project begins around December with completion expected in early April. Somerville joins Cameron Buckholts Rogers Rosebud Caldwell Lyons and Rockdale in the district which now serves more than 6 900 customers.

Cameron City Council calls a special election for December 19 to decide a 1 percent city sales tax. A 40 000 budget is proposed for use of tax proceeds including fire, streets, equipment, library, police, airport, parks, cemetery and salaries with a 15 member Citizens Committee led by E A Perrin.

Seven Men Indicted by Milam County Grand Jury

Indictments returned against seven men in the September term of the Milam County Grand Jury. Charges include fraudulent checks for felony theft, two burglaries, and an assault with intent to murder. United Fund Drive Surpasses Goal by 13.6 Percent

The Cameron United Fund raised 8523 dollars for Red Cross Salvation Army Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. Led by campaign chairman Albert McCullin Jr the drive exceeded the 7500 goal representing 113.6 percent and ran from mid October into November for payroll drives.

Thorndale robbery suspects held in Columbus Texas

Milam County Sheriff says two Houston men Joe Nathan Wilson and L C Ross were arrested in Columbus in a Friday Thorndale store robbery at Steve's Cash Store. They allegedly forced entry and stole 800 to 900 dollars worth of cigarettes and cigars before trying to mislead by staging car trouble.

Miss Josephine Wohleb died at 3 10 p m in a local hospital. Funeral services were held at St Monica s Catholic Church with Rev John Geiser officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Rosary was recited at Marek Burns Funeral Home. Born May 30 1872 in Industry she leaves five nephews and four nieces. Fire Destroys Two Garages in Cameron Green Addition

Fire destroyed two private garages Saturday afternoon in Cameron's Green Addition. Fire Chief Carl Black said the cause is undetermined and the blaze affected homes of Mrs. Leona White and Mrs. A. R. McLerran on North Harding. Laundry equipment in White's garage was unused at the time.

Driver Injured In Auto Gun Accident Near Belt's Salvage

James C. Broadway of Bludworth Ship Yard Houston was accidentally shot in his car on Highway 36 near Belt's Salvage. His wife, the sole passenger, said a 25 caliber weapon dropped in the car and fired. Broadway was taken to Newton Memorial Hospital then Scott and White Hospital for emergency surgery. The incident occurred Friday evening.
