Cameron Christmas Parade to Feature Santa and Floats

Cameron officials confirmed Santa Claus will appear at the Milam County holiday parade Friday at 4 p.m. with a half hour later downtown route. Nineteen units plus late entries were to join the procession, ending at the Courthouse Square for gift giving, candy, and balloons amid Christmas City decorations and prize floats.

Milam County Sets Cotton Marketing Quota Referendum

Milam County will hold a cotton marketing quota referendum on December 12. The 1962 state allotment is 7,698,169 acres, about 43 percent of the national total. Polls run 8 am to 6 pm with voting eligibility based on 1961 upland cotton history.

Cattleman Leader Urges Free Enterprise In Agriculture

Dolph Briscoe Jr of Uvalde speaking to Cameron Rotarians argued for keeping free enterprise in farming. He cited American production gains, warned against government meddling, noted rising costs and falling farm prices, and praised Texas screw worm control via sterile flies. He urged 50 cents per head funding to sustain the program.

Pecan Food Show Set for December 9 in Cameron

The Milam Pecan Food Show will be held at 9:30 a.m. on December 9 in a building across from the Cameron Post Office. Entries must arrive 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. with name, address, division, class, and product type. Judging awards ribbons, entries become property of the Milam County Home Demonstration Council to fund show expenses.

Bill Bates Resigns as Cameron Head Coach

Cameron School Board accepted the resignation of head football coach Billy Bates effective December 1 after 14 years with the district. Bates, 29, leaves to join Holt's Sporting Goods in Longview, citing thanks to trustees and administration for support during his two seasons as coach with a 12-7-1 record and a 1960 tri district title.

Connally Outlasts Thorndale In 1A Regional Playoff

A crowd of about 3 500 watched Connally defeat Thorndale 34 to 20 at Yoe Field Thanks giving night. Wayne Pick iced the win with a 95 yard kickoff return after an interception on the Thorndale 5 yard line. Thorndale’s Kenneth Caffey and Richart Westbrook driven drive stalled by a late Connally interception.

Cameron School Carnival Set For Monday

The annual Cameron School Carnival will be held Monday in Ada Henderson Cafeteria with a chili supper starting at 5 p.m. in Yee High Gymnasium. Activities run 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. for students and 6 to 9 p.m. until the All-School Queen is crowned. Queen candidates from Yoe High are named.

Jane Henderson Arrives in New York After Europe Tour

Jane Henderson daughter of Mr and Mrs John B Henderson Sr arrives in New York City aboard the Holland America Line Statendam after a four month Europe tour. She plans to visit Washington D C then return to Cameron for Christmas holidays around December 15.
