Dr O Elbra Monroe Funeral in Cameron

Dr D Elbra Monroe 51 renowned Milam County physician died 2 55 p m Monday November 25 1935 at Cameron Hospital after two weeks illness from a blood infection due to a neck carbuncle. Born in Milam County he returned from San Antonio hospital last week and died after blood transfusion aided by his brother Frank Monroe. Funeral services Tuesday at 3 p m with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. He was a Mason and an American Legion member who served in France. Survived by his father Dr D Monroe and a brother.

Cameron High School Gymnasium Contract Awarded

The Cameron city council awarded the gymnasium contract to C. C. Ramsey of Waco for a 40000 to 53000 project. The modern facility will include a basketball court and support new school facilities. A bond election will be needed to match PWA funds, per city officials.

No Charges Filed in Fatal Accident Near Lamkin Store

No charges were filed against Harry Rogers after a truck driven by him killed Ella Cooks and injured three others on the highway east of the city. Rogers, who was hurt, was released the same night. Reports conflict on the crash and no DWI charge has been filed yet. Rogers had prior legal trouble including a 1934 murder case with a suspended five year sentence.

Bond election for Yee High vocational building approved

City Council orders a bond election for 36 000 dollars for a school building at Yee High School with 20 000 dollars from federal funds. Building size is 100 by 150 feet and valued highly for the city’s needs. Santa Claus to visit Cameron on December 6 for the parade, per a radio message to Secretary Paden. Yeomen Year Books to be distributed over the weekend to aid school athletic treasury. Committee work slowed by delays.

Minerva Roadway 3 Under Construction Near Cameron

Construction will begin on 5.8 miles of road from Minerva to connect with Highway 36 south of Cameron. Russ Mitchell Inc of Houston holds the contract. cost exceeds $111,000. T. B. Hargrove oversees work with offices in the Lawrence building. A concrete bridge will cross Sandy Creek. The road traverses Rice Schoolhouse area and avoids Little River bottom, shortening travel to Minerva by three miles. Mrs. Clifton Jenness hosted the Friday Bridge Club.

Milam County Votes for Repeal Election on December 5

An election to decide whether Milam County 18 year old prohibition law will stay in force or be repealed was set for December 5 after a petition met the required signatories and approval by Judge Jeff T. Kemp following a Commissions Court meeting. If repeal passes Cameron would be wet and some southern precincts may stay dry. the county voted dry prior to 1917 and earlier voted for repeal on August 24 of this year.
