Jury Decides Stab Wounds Accidental in Cameron Case

A Milam County petit jury ruled in favor of Essie L. Swain of Cameron in a district court case over a life insurance policy for VY Malone Jr. The verdict found the teen died from wounds not intentionally inflicted during a cafe scuffle with Larry Nichols at West 4th Street on July 3. National Life and Accident Insurance Co. was the defendant.

Apollo 12 recovery ship Hornet ready for splashdown

Cameron Seaman aboard the USS Hornet witnesses Apollo 12 splashdown from 385 miles east of American Samoa. The Hornet, prime recovery vessel for Apollo 8 10 and 11 12, will escort astronauts Pete Conrad Alan Bean and Richard Gordon returning from Ocean of Storms. Helen Stanford, convicted of felOnly theft in Milam County in 1967, has been paroled by Gov. Preston Smith on the Board of Pardons and Waroles recommendation. Stanford received a seven year sentence with credit for four years and seven months.

Lions and Rotarians to Hear Senator Murray Watson

The Noon Lions Club and Cameron Rotary Club invite members to a joint luncheon at Cameron Country Club in Gan Tuesday. Senator Watson, Texas Senate since 1962, has led as President Pro Tem and once served as governor for a day. He began in the Texas House in 1937 and represents the 18th District. He is a Bayou Law School graduate and practicing attorney in Waco.

Yoe High Band Heads to UIL Marching Contest

Yoe High School Marching Band will compete in UIL marching at Baylor Stadium Waco on Tuesday at 11 40 a.m. It marks the first UIL appearance since 1946 with 31 bands in the region. Band director Bob Carney says the group is limited to 85 students after auditions.
