Anti Rat Drive Slated For Cameron Downtown
A rat extermination program for Cameron downtown is set for Monday and Tuesday December 6 and 9. Milam County Sanitation Officer Roddy Helcombe says Fumarin todenticide will be used with no fatal risk from single doses to humans or domestic animals. Two representatives from the Bureau of Sport Fisheries and Wildlife will assist. The effort is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and run by the Milam County Health Dept.

Ruben M. Johnson 64 died at 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in a local hospital. Born January 7 1905 in Cameron he lived here all his life and built authentic Texas train models exhibited at fairs including the State Fair in Dallas. Funeral Thursday at 11 a.m. at St Monica’s Catholic Church with burial in St Monica Cemetery. Survived by wife Marie L Johnson Cameron two sons Ruben H Johnson and John M Johnson Austin three daughters Rose Marie Lindsay Bryan Barbara Jo Johnson Austin Louise Duval Dallas two brothers Louis H Johnson Fred Johnson Austin three sisters Maude McDermott Cameron Louise Merrill Victoria Mary Lamb Dallas and eight grandchildren. Three Austin men, David M. Elliott, Walter Homer Snow, and Frederick Callaway, charged with possession of marijuana, have trial dates set for February 16 and 17 in the Milam County District Court. The arrests followed discovery of a marijuana patch near Thorndale on May 18.

Poage Says Mail Slower Despite Travel Advances

Sentenced Man Captured After Brief City Hunt
Charles Loftin 56 was sentenced last week to two years in prison and slipped away from county officers mid morning after a District Court hearing. He was recaptured near 18th and Fannin Street at a relative’s home. Loftin, from Buckholts area, listed Odessa as his address and had been found guilty of attempted burglary of the Svetlik Store in Buckholts last May. He allegedly attacked City Police Sgt. Martinez as charges were filed last summer. While awaiting transfer to Huntsville, he broke 14 jail windows on Tuesday. Deputies drove him to Huntsville Wednesday afternoon.
