Milam County Entry Runner-Up in Texas Farm Bureau Beauty Contest

Mary Evelyn Smith of Milam County finished as the runner-up in the Texas Farm Bureau Beauty Contest finals held Monday night at the Baker Hotel in Dallas. Joyce Gray of Chireno won the title and $500 expense money to attend the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in Chicago. Smith, a Thorndale High School graduate and FFA sweetheart, had previously won district honors after capturing county titles in July.

Services Held For Homer McLane Native Countian

Funeral services were conducted for Homer McLane 60 at the First Presbyterian Church with interment in Oak Hill cemetery. McLane, born Milam County, lived in Cameron over 40 years and worked at the Post Office and McLane Wholesale before joining Graben Chevrolet in 1933. He was office manager of Farle Pearson Chevrolet Co and a long time church deacon. Surviving are his wife Myrtle and brother Henry. Active pallbearers included Emory Camp and others. honorary pallbearers were church deacons and Earle Pearson Chevrolet staff.

Milam County draft board honors five year service

Jeff A. Henderson and Ben Arnold received five year service certificates at a Milam County draft board meeting. The five member board formed in 1948 now includes L D Barnes Jr and James H Baugh with Leon Brady, all noted for voluntary service since 1952 to 1955. Chairman August Kunz, the sole remaining original member, may reach ten year recognition next August.

City Service Set For Thanksgiving in Cameron

A community Thanksgiving Service will be held at 7 30 p.m. Wednesday, November 27, at the First Baptist Church in Cameron. A combined choir from Cameron church choirs will sing. The Cameron Ministerial Association invites the public to attend the united service.

City Council Awards Bond Sale To SA Firms

A Texas city council approved selling bonds to San Antonio firms. Census reporter H C Walters announced Milam County will be divided into seven Census County Divisions for the 1960 counts Buckholts Burlington Cameron Dawlia Gause Rockdale and Thorndale. A staff of eight will conduct the Texas 1960 census in these divisions for local administration and civic use.
