Reverend Kallus Addresses Cameron Civic Club Thanksgiving

The Rev. Alfred Kallus of St. Monica's spoke at a Cameron dinner meeting with about 60 Lions Kiwanis and Rotary members at First Methodist Church. He defined Thanksgiving as a religious holiday and praised American freedoms and abundance while noting two thirds of the world go hungry.

All-School Carnival Starts Tuesday at Yee High Gym

Wiley Loughmiller announced the second annual All-School Carnival will begin at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday in Yee High School Gym. Last year the event drew hundreds and funded class activities.

North Milam United Drive totals $1569 toward 11300 goal

The North Milam United Fund drive reports $1569 in contributions with $908 from Cameron downtown businesses. Chair Robert Nelson extended the drive to December 1 due to rain, with Drayton McLane leading Cameron, Leon Brady Buckholts, and Ada Henderson, Ben Milam, Yee High School staff contributing. Funds are allotted proportionally to local agencies for the North Milam area.

Quarterback Club To Start Sale Of Dinner Tickets

The Quarterback Club will begin selling dinner tickets Monday for the annual football banquet on December 17 at Simon George Hall. Abe Martin, renowned grid mentor at Texas Christian University, will address the group. About 300 players parents and club members are expected to attend. Dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday with tickets at 1.50 each. Martin will speak on grid experiences from his coaching career at TCU and other colleges.

Scout Dinner Draws 85 District Leaders

About 85 Scout leaders and guests from Tejas District attended the annual appreciation dinner November 21 at Simon George Hall. A. C. Bowen spoke on dads and sons, with Frank Hyder introducing him. District officers for the coming year were named by the nominating committee.

Big Christmas Parade Brings Santa to Cameron

The Cameron Chamber of Commerce backs a Christmas parade with Trades Day on Thursday starting 3 30 p m. Four prize drawings will start at 3 30 with doubled early prizes and a final 5 p m award after the parade. About 28 Cameron merchants participate in Trades Day, held most Wednesdays since mid October.

Milam County health unit reports 28 flu cases in the latest weekly count. Dr. John B. Brynson notes two mumps and one strep throat case, with October influenza peaking at around 100 and closing Sharp School for several days.

Cameron Christmas Parade draws thousands in Milam County

Cameron Chamber of Commerce hosts the annual Christmas parade in downtown Cameron with about 30 units including 13 floats and tour bands from Cameron and Rockdale. Top four floats win 90 in prizes led by 25, 15 and 10 dollar awards. Santa Claus rides near the end and candy is handed out after the parade which forms at the Santa Fe Railroad Station and goes to the Milam County Courthouse.

Weather clears after weeks of rain with light totals

Sunshine and clear skies returned early this week after weeks of clouds and rain. Rain totals reached 1.35 inches by press time, near the weekly average, with a forecast calling for cooler temperatures and more clouds over the weekend and a chance of showers.
