Thanksgiving Service At Christian Church

The United Thanksgiving Service will be held on Wednesday November 23 at 8 o clock at the Christian Church with Rev A J McCary newly appointed pastor for the First Methodist Church of Cameron delivering the message. The Thanksgiving offering will go to aid Jewish refugees expelled from Germany.

McCullin Dies in San Antonio at 72

W M McCullin aged 72 died at his San Antonio home after years of illness. Funeral held Wednesday. He moved from Louisiana to Texas twenty years ago and left a large family including seven daughters and seven sons. Surviving wife Mrs W M McCullin and numerous relatives noted. His son A W McCullin of Minerva is a prominent local business man.

We Got a Persimmon Frank Zolkosky who lives in the sand country east of the river has made a specialty for years of producing large Japanese persimmons. Paving Plans Advanced for Federal Grant in City

City Council authorized immediate plans and specifications to apply for a federal street paving grant. Engineer Joe J. Rady of Fort Worth will lead surveys and compile data, with Dan Tyson tasked to file the application. property owners may fund a small portion of the program including several miles of new first class streets and upgrades to existing thoroughfares.

Subsidy checks totaling 136208.27 dollars for about 1350 applications were received in the Milam County Agent’s office through November 12 1938. A total of 1724 checks have been received to date.

A census report by Ray ONeill, Department of Commerce special agent, shows a year to date decrease of 9,130 bales in this county. Before November 1, 1987, 41,808 bales were ginned. this year the gain is 32,678 bales.

New Pastor Joins Cameron Methodist Church

Rev. A. J. McCary arrives in Cameron with family to lead First Methodist Church. Formerly Presiding Elder of the Jacksonville District Texas Conference, he pastored St. Pauls Tyler Houston Galveston and Bay City, and succeeds Rev. J Coy Williams. He preached his first Cameron sermon and was welcomed by the congregation.

Correction issued on Milam Red Cross subscriptions

The Herald corrects a last week report on Red Cross radio program figures. Milam county memberships at $1 each totaled about 400 people, not 4000 as previously stated. The error overstated funds and is corrected to reflect the true enrollments and the ongoing need for aid.

Water bond issue seeks 180000 to buy Cameron water plant

Cameron voters face a December 6 election on a bond issue for 180000 to purchase Community Public Service Company. City engineers value the plant at 171614 and plan 8836 for filtration and improvements. Bonds are revenue bearing and paid from plant operations.

Light Vote Cast in General Election Returns

Returns from the general election on Tuesday, November 8, reveal no voting and few Republicans cast ballots. W. Lee O'Daniel, Democrat for governor, lost only 25 votes. other races show a similar ratio. The table lists state race results with names and vote counts for lieutenant governor, attorney general, and other offices. J. D. Hillin of New Salem visited Cameron on Monday.
