Right of Way Progress Lags as Medical Draft Calls Go Out

Local Texas draft boards received the first call for examinations of physicians dentists and veterinarians totaling 95 doctors 42 dentists and 54 veterinarians. Examinations will occur November 20 to 24 with future December dates not yet set. Readiness coded by Wakefield notes many registrants are available and some boards have no eligibles. Locations include Amarillo Abilene Corpus Christi El Paso Texarkana San Antonio Houston Dallas and Shreveport. Dr Marvin Bartlett says many doctors volunteer and local doctors may avoid service.

Water Department to Collect Sewer Tax in Cameron

Cameron residents face a looming sewer tax of about 10 000 dollars annually while council debates its fate and uses the water department to collect. Mayors, firemen, and a proposed airport sale loom as officials weigh budget needs and bond issues amid petitions and bids for warrants.

Sixteen 18 year old men have registered for the draft in October per Milam County Draft Board chief clerk Mrs Loretta Brock. Milam County PMA Committee Election Date Set

Milam County voters will choose the PMA committee on November 16 1950 with polls open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ballots by mail accepted with name address form serial number and voting location shown on the envelope. Each producer may vote in their farm community and proxy voting is not allowed.

Alderman Denounces Petitions On Highway Bonds

Alderman L. Van Perkins says petitions against a 50 000 warrant plan to buy right of way for Highway 190 aim to block progress. He cites business leaders pressing warrants over bonds and warns opponents are trying to derail the project. Page Eight, Section One.

The Giddings Post Office was entered Sunday night. A combination dial was knocked off the vault and all the locks were broken from the clerk’s drawers.

The Beaufort resident has Jefferson County ties since 1927 and a 1937 law degree. He served in FBI prior to Army Intelligence and later became State Senator after serving as District Attorney.

City Council Approves Sewer Cleaning Equipment Purchase

At Tuesday night’s meeting Alderman Bob Terry said the city needs sewer cleaning gear as roots and poor equipment disrupt many lines. The council voted 5 0 to buy a sewer auger costing about 592 15 and discussed a street marker for the mercantile area but took no action. Mayor Green also proposed Neal Dodson for city electrician pending qualification.

Texas Republican ousted Tuesday in Cameron vote

In Cameron the lightest general election turnout in 20 years saw only 238 ballots cast as 1 347 poll taxes were paid. County clerk Homer Nabours expected tabulation Wednesday as many ballot boxes remained out. Ben Guild, the state’s lone Republican congressman, lost to Democrat Walter Rogers of Pampa by about 2 500 votes with most results in.

Herald Plant Closure Observed on Armistice Day

The Cameron Herald plant will be closed all day November 11 in observance of Armistice Day. The Daily Midget will not publish that Saturday and workers return Monday for resumption of publication. Many local businesses also close for the holiday.

Well Known Circus to Bring Cole & Walters to Cameron

The Cole & Walters circus and menagerie will perform in Cameron on Wednesday November 15 with an afternoon and night show. Audiences will see a baby hippo and baby elephant plus a host of animals and acts including the Kreil Family European acrobats Miss Jeanie Marie Webb and her trained chimps Wayne Newmans white horses and thirty tons of performing elephants. Children are invited to the grounds at 10 am to see the animals fed and receive an education in natural history.
