Turkeys, Cows and Horses Cause Road Chaos in Milam

Over a 19 day period Milam drivers had eight crashes injuring three people as livestock including two cows a horse and a truckload of turkeys were involved. Notable incidents occurred near Milano Brazos River bridge Rockdale and Thorndale with property damage ranging from minor to several hundred dollars and animals killed in multiple collisions.

Rep Elect Schiller to Vacate Cameron Board Posts Open

Rep elect Milton Schiller plans to resign from the Cameron School Board Thursday night before January taking office as state representative for Milam Jarleson and Robertson Counties. Board discussions may include succession and district valuation equalization targeted by October 1963 amid an audit nearing completion.

Poage Defends Farm Program Before Farmers Union

U S congressman W R Poage defends the Democratic farm program at a Milam County Farmers Union meeting in Simon George Hall. He argues the plan balances supply to avoid billion dollar surpluses and defends farmers against claims of socialism or communism. About 175 members heard his remarks after his recent return from Brazil.

City approves West Fourth Street four lane plan

The Cameron City Council approved first reading of an ordinance turning West Fourth Street from North Travis to the city limits into a four lane road and restricting parking to allow line markings. Officials also authorized traffic light purchases for the Travis Fourth Street intersection to handle rising traffic from Milam County while Houston traffic rerouted through Cameron.

Milam voters elected nine district and county Democrats in unopposed races. W R Poage was re elected as 11th District congressman with 3396 votes. Murray Watson and Milton Schiller won state and district posts with solid margins. Milam County voters reject eight measures and pass six as they vote on 14 proposed amendments Tuesday. The most controversial no 14 on trial de novo fails by 1057 to 1811 in county results.

Milam County Chooses Connally in Texas Governor Race

Milam County voters backed Democrat John Connally for governor with 2527 to 1067 for Cox and 9 for Carswell. Across the state Connally led by about 110000 votes as light turnout contrasted with heavier city turnout. Local totals show Connally winning all 38 Milam boxes and reported statewide totals near 1.25 million ballots cast.

Lions raise funds with S40 sweep at Cameron

The Cameron Lions Club sold brooms mops and related items at the S40 event and tallied about 840 in income. Part supports the Cripple Children's Camp in Kerrville and aid for needy children including eye glasses and a Yee High School graduate scholarship.
